Prem Boarding came together on Thursday 24 September for a special evening celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival, honouring three cultural traditions in one shared celebration: Zhongqiu Jie, Chuseok, and Thadingyut. From 5.30pm to 8.00pm, students filled the boarding house with music, food and light as they marked this meaningful time of year together.
Throughout the evening, students shared presentations and performances celebrating their different cultures, from Grade 10 students Elena and Rebecca’s heartfelt musical performance to a Heritage Day presentation exploring South Africa’s diverse cultures, Clio’s poetry recital with Suri’s translation, and an introduction to the meaning and traditions behind Chuseok. These performances gave the community a chance to learn about and appreciate the different cultures represented within Boarding, each presentation offering a personal window into a tradition close to the presenter’s heart.
Students also enjoyed freshly grilled skewers and traditional treats, and the night closed with a candle-lighting activity, students carefully placing and lighting candles together in a quiet, memorable moment. It was a wonderful reminder of the richness of our international boarding community, where students not only celebrate their own traditions but take the time to understand and appreciate those of their peers.
