Sustainability at Prem

Prem International School is committed to sustainability and incorporating eco-friendly practices into its curriculum and campus operations. The school emphasises environmental education, encouraging students to engage in projects that promote conservation and renewable energy.

It has implemented waste reduction strategies, such as recycling programs and composting, to minimise our environmental impact. Through service projects, such as Precious Plastics, Threads of Change and the Prem Food Bank, Prem students become leaders in environmental advocacy and sustainability, evidencing their global citizenship.

WWF Green Flag Status

We are a WWF Green Flag Eco-School, the highest honour bestowed upon a school for their environmental work. Having the Green Flag award is not only recognition of all the hard work that we are doing to improve sustainability issues, but is also our promise to continue to strive to improve sustainable practices throughout the school and community.

Prem’s Eco-Committee

Prem’s Eco-Committee is made up of students from Grades 4 to 12, teachers, parents and community members. The committee works to set up many projects around the school to maintain, monitor and develop sustainable practices. Most recently, compost waste bins were placed in classrooms to collect fruit waste from morning snack time. Food waste was tracked, monitored, and recycled.

Students have worked with the science department to look at the feasibility of using solar cell technology on campus in the future, installing motion sensitive light switches in common areas and encouraging more sustainable use of air conditioners in classrooms and offices.

Prem’s Forest School

Prem’s Forest School offers students immersive outdoor learning experiences, connecting them with nature through hands-on activities in the forest environment. The program fosters a deep appreciation for the natural world while teaching essential skills like teamwork, problem-solving, and environmental stewardship.

As part of the Forest School our Grade 7 students designed structures that enhance the habitat for pollinators using sustainable materials and regenerative design principles. The local community is excited to see bees, butterflies, and bats finding refuge in these creations, while last year’s bird boxes are now occupied.

Prem offers a sustainability scholarship (This needs to be linked to the scholarship page in Admissions) for students interested in the International Baccalaureate Careers Programme.
