Good Morning everybody,
First of all, please make sure you check out our Upcoming Events at Prem - there are many super events coming up, including a special evening of music with the Prem Symphonic Band Gala Concert in the amphitheatre (weather permitting), on Friday 1st December between 5.00 - 6.30pm.
The great Premathlon last Friday witnessed the Prem community coming together for the annual Premathlon, raising an impressive 70,000+ baht. Beyond the excitement of various races, the event showcased our commitment to community service, with over ten student-led charities highlighted. The success of Premathlon reflects our community's unity, generosity, and dedication to making a positive impact.
A very positive impact was also felt when our students showcased their diplomatic prowess at the Chiang Mai Model United Nations conference. Representing various nations, Prem delegates actively participated in discussions, made powerful speeches, and received accolades, including the "Best Delegate" award. This success not only reflects our students' excellence but also highlights their commitment to global engagement and diplomacy.
The theme of global engagement and intercultural learning is also in evidence in the Boarding Studentsβ weekend. They celebrated Diwali with joy at an Indian restaurant, savoring delicious cuisine and immersing themselves in the festive atmosphere. We are looking forward to celebrating another important festival, Loy Krathong next week!
On the academic front, our Early Years philosophy came to life in Term 2 with the launch of Early Years Community Time. Parents were invited to actively participate in their child's educational adventure, creating a seamless connection between home and school. This special initiative encourages parents to appreciate their child's uniqueness, deepening the understanding of strengths, interests, and learning styles.
On Wednesday, parents of our JS students delved into the world of Differentiated Instruction in Language Learning with a workshop. The workshop fostered insightful discussions, challenged preconceived ideas, and recognized the vital role parents play in supporting a differentiated learning environment. We also held a workshop conducted in collaboration with Bangkok Hospital, showcasing our commitment to a safe and healthy environment. We thank all parents who attended and look forward to continuing similar health-related workshops in the future. You can also read about the PSC Monthly Parent "Meet Up": Strengthening Connections. The next PSC meeting is Tuesday 12th December.
As you can see, Prem's community spirit is alive and thriving, as we celebrate these moments of collaboration, learning, and joy. Together, as a community, we continue to nurture young minds and create a positive impact in the world about us. Thank you for being a vital part of the Prem family!
Happy reading and viewing (Premathlon Video!),
With very best wishes,

As the end of our vibrant, busy and excellent first semester approaches, there is much to reflect on and celebrate. Our students across all grades continue to flourish in many different facets of school life. During these final weeks of Semester 1 Senior School students will also feel busy engaging with learning activities and assessments across numerous subjects. We are proud of how each individual engages with their learning as well as demonstrate commitment to participating in exciting school life opportunities.
I would like to take a moment to reflect on some of the excellent recent school life moments that highlight our studentsβ joyful engagement in a broad range of wonderful opportunities.
Our U20 Girls Football travelled to Phuket this weekend because they were invited to compete in an invitational tournament with other international schools from this region. Make sure you look for an update on our social media platforms during the coming days on how they did. Good luck Panthers!!
Recently, our enthusiastic Model United Nations (MUN) students participated in the annual 2-day Chiang Mai Model United Nations event. Well done to all involved.
Groups of Grade 9 students have completed their adventurous journey during weekend excursions in pursuit of their Bronze level International Award. Well done to all those students and huge gratitude to the staff chaperones for their time and support.
Throughout these past couple of weeks our Grade 10 students have been in the process of making important academic pathways decisions. Our Diploma Programme and Careers-related Programme teachers, Coordinators and college counselling team have facilitated an outstanding guidance process of subject options information in different sessions. This past week our Academic Pathways and Options Evening for Grade 10 parents and students was the culminating step in helping them speak with teachers about their personalised pathway desires for Grade 11 and 12. It is exciting and quite challenging for students to decide their preferred course of study before they graduate Prem. Huge thanks to all our teachers for their time and wonderful guidance of students through this very important process.
I feel very proud of our whole learning community. So many wonderful experiences and opportunities are happening inside and outside our learning spaces. Our students do an amazing job of frequently demonstrating their growth-mindset through many activities. In classrooms, or studios, or on sports fields, or through giving service to others our young people strive to give their best in any area of school life that they commit to.
As always, thank you to our families for the ongoing partnership each and every week. We look forward to seeing you at different upcoming community events in December like the Senior School Sports Day, Winter Wonderland Concert and Winter Carnival. Letβs all enjoy a festive conclusion to an excellent, busy first semester.
Sincerely,
Shaun Hudson

Bridging Connections: Early Years Community Time at Prem
In the heart of the Early Years at Prem, our philosophy revolves around nurturing happy, confident, and independent learners who also become caring global citizens. To bring this philosophy to life, we've started the Early Years Community Time in Term 2, a special opportunity inviting parents to witness and be part of their child's educational adventure.
Our Early Years Community Time is more than a peek into our classrooms; it's a deliberate effort to strengthen the link between home and school. Parents actively participating in their child's learning environment creates a seamless connection, supporting the child's overall development. Aligned with our commitment to building strong relationships, Community Time in the Early Years at Prem encourages parents to appreciate their child's uniqueness. This shared experience deepens the understanding of their strengths, interests, and learning styles. As parents engage with educators and witness their child's interactions, a sense of community and trust between home and school is strengthened.
The physical environment, experienced by parents during our Community Time, reflects our philosophy in action. Open-ended materials encourage creativity and the intentional design of indoor and outdoor spaces promotes exploration and learning. This flexible environment responds to the needs and interests of the students, creating an inclusive and dynamic learning space. Our Early Years Documentation serves as a powerful tool for reflection. It provides transparency into the learning processes, allowing parents to understand their child's development. Making the learning journey visible strengthens the connection between home and school, creating a shared understanding of the child's growth.
During our Community Time, we invite parents to be active participants in their child's educational journey. It goes beyond witnessing classroom activities; it's about co-creating an enriching learning environment. The collaboration between parents, educators, and children forms a community that actively shapes the growth and development of each child.
The Early Years Community Time at Prem, showcases our commitment to creating a holistic and collaborative educational experience, we bridge the gap between home and school, inviting parents to play an active role in shaping their child's educational journey. Together, as a community, we aspire to nurture young minds that are compassionate, curious, and ready to make a positive impact on the world.

Differentiated Instruction in Language Learning
On Wednesday, a group of junior school parents engaged in a workshop focused on Differentiated Instruction in Language Learning. The session, centred around Carol Ann Tomlinson's differentiation framework, aimed to deepen parents' understanding of essential elements within a differentiated classroom. Here's a summary of the key points highlighted in the workshop:
It was delightful to witness the enthusiasm with which parents participated in insightful discussions, challenging their preconceived ideas about differentiation. A heartfelt thank you to all the parents who made this workshop a success.

Chiang Mai Model United Nations Conference
A Chiang Mai Model United Nations conference was held with nine schools and over 200 students present. 22 Prem delegates attended the conference and represented a large variety of nations such as the United States of America, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the Soviet Union. Delegates pushed for their resolution, made powerful speeches, and asked insightful points of inquiry. Furthermore, three students from Prem served as chairs in General Assembly 1 and were essential for the smooth running of the conference. Prem students were even able to bag the βBest Delegateβ award.

Finding our way
In a recent French class, students had a super fun project. They were learning how to give directions in French, and the task was to make a board game in pairs. It was not just about French but also about working together and learning some ATL skills.
First off, each pair had to make a map for their game. Imagine drawing your own world! The classroom turned into an art studio as everyone got creative, drawing colourful and imaginative maps.
The best part was how the students worked together. They had to use a skill called "Working effectively with others." This means they had to be a good team. Some kids were great at drawing the map, while others were awesome with the French words for directions.
They also learned how to share decisions. That's when "Delegate and share responsibility for decision-making" came into play. Together, they decided how the game should look, how tricky the directions should be, and what theme to go for. It was like being a mini team of game designers!
But, you know, teamwork isn't always smooth. Sometimes there were disagreements. That's when "Manage and resolve conflict and work collaboratively in teams" kicked in. They had to figure out how to get past arguments and keep going with the project.
After all the hard work, the board games were ready to play. The students got to give each other feedback, saying what they liked and how things could be even better. That's the "Give and receive meaningful feedback" part. It's like saying, "Hey, great job on this, and maybe we can improve that."
In the end, this French class was way more than just learning a language. It was about teamwork, making decisions together, handling disagreements, and giving helpful feedback. These students didn't just become better at French directionsβthey also got a taste of what it's like to work together on a project, getting ready for whatever adventures come their way!

Another Successful Premathlon!
Hundreds of students, staff, and parents came together on Friday, November 17 to celebrate Founder's Day at our annual Premathlon. This marked the second year that Premathlon has not only raised money for a chosen external charity partner (such as this year's was Doctors Without Borders & Save the Children), but it marks an increase in visibility of over ten of our own incredible student-led charities. We thank everyone who stopped by, learned about the good work our students are doing, and donated through either cash or by purchasing something from these student stands. Between the race entry fees, raffles, and food sold at the event, our community raised an impressive 70,000+ baht! Imagine how much good we can do with your kind generosity!
We'd like to also sincerely thank every single community member who participated and donated to the day from a House perspective. The cooler temperatures meant that it was a great day for cheering on our students in the many different races they participated in. Congratulations to everyone who crossed the finish line and an extra GREAT JOB to all who placed on the podium to earn additional points for their Houses. These final results will be given to students soon in our next House assembly.
We look forward to seeing you all at the next big community events of Winter Wonderland (Thursday, December 14) and Prem International Day (Friday, January 12). More information about how you can help and participate in International Day will be in the next PSC meeting on Wednesday, December 12. We can all make such a profound difference when we come together and support each other. See you at our next event!

Language and leadership through Arts and Cultural Learning
Once upon a time in the UK when I was selecting and managing projects for the governmentβs βCreative Partnershipsβ initiative, I was often stunned by the sheer number of conversations we would have with schools who were simply looking to work with artists so as to βbrighten upβ a space. Not that there isnβt merit in being aesthetically mindful of our environment, but it was all too often the case that the schools and staff wanting to access funding and support, didnβt realise or appreciate the myriad of benefits that come with the process. The act of painting a mural with students can, more often than not, be narrowly perceived as merely a decorative exercise or a simple art project. This take sadly overlooks the deeper pedagogical significance and the wide-ranging skills being developed through such a collaborative endeavour. To some, it may seem that the young people are just adding colour to a wall, but this type of activity is far more than just the physical act of painting.
In terms of education the act of creating a mural involves a complex process that engages students on multiple levels. It's an exercise in teamwork, ensemble and collaboration, requiring students to negotiate ideas, themes, and artistic decisions collectively. Working in this way inherently requires and cultivates communication skills, as students must articulate their thoughts, listen to others, and reach consensus. In addition to this it offers a platform for critical thinking and problem-solving. They are challenged to conceptualise a design that resonates with a wider audience and consider factors such as the mural's location, the message it conveys, and its aesthetic appeal.
Prem's recent collaboration with public-art and architectural muralist Melinda Butt, was mindful of these benefits and provided a broad range of meaningful connections for learning across our school, as well as resonating with some important global educational insights. Now in its eleventh year, our Artist Residency Thailand (ARThailand programme) continues to reflect how integration of arts into our curriculum aligns with the findings of recent research from leading global organisations like the OECD, World Economic Forum, and UNESCO on the unquestionable benefits of arts and cultural education.
Although it doesnβt happen overnight, regular exposure to arts and cultural engagement has been shown to quicken language acquisition, improve literacy and increase compassion among students. These findings partly drive our initiatives at Prem, where Melinda Butt's workshops have helped to foster not only creativity but also empathy, critical thinking, and effective communication among the young people who took part.
There are many reasons and benefits that come from Premβs commitment to championing artistic and creative collaborations and not just that it partly embodies a forward-thinking educational philosophy. Our commitment to βeducation for creativityβ and the work of initiatives like ARThailand, align with global consensus on the transformative power of arts and cultural learning, preparing our students to be innovative, empathetic, and socially responsible leaders of tomorrow.

Prem Symphonic Band: Get your tickets while you can!
One of the many fantastic artistic initiatives at Prem and one that is under the inspired guidance of our Curriculum Leader for the Arts, Teacher Laurent, the Prem Symphonic Band really demonstrates a clear embodiment of communal spirit and creative expression.
As the leaves turn and the cool breeze of December begins to sweep through our campus we are only a couple of weeks away from the upcoming PSB Gala Concert, scheduled for the evening of 1 December. This event is set to be a showcase of some of the collective musical talents that flourish within our Middle and Senior School.
The concert promises to provide not just a performance, but a celebration of the end of the PSB's inaugural seasonβa season that has seen growth, collaboration, and the pure joy of music-making. Set against the backdrop of our beautiful Amphitheatre, this Gala Concert promises to be an event that marries captivating music with the natural beauty of our campus.
The event also serves a noble purpose, supporting future PSB events, retreats, and festivals. With tickets available at an early bird price of 500 baht at the cashier and 600 baht at the door, it's an invitation to not only indulge in the musical prowess of our students but to also invest in the continuation of such inspiring school events.
We extend our invitation to all within our community to join us and applaud the young musicians who will take to the stage, ready to end their season on a note as high as their aspirations.
We look forward to seeing you there.

Diwali and Houseboat Weekend in Boarding
Our weekend in boarding commenced with a joyous celebration of Diwali at an Indian restaurant in town on Friday evening. The boarding students immersed themselves in the festive atmosphere and savoured delicious Indian cuisine. On Saturday, a group of students and teachers Bobby, Krisha, Tona and Nic ventured to a picturesque houseboat at Sri Lanna National Park for a day of aquatic adventures. The students enjoyed the beautiful weather by swimming, kayaking, and playing board games, fostering camaraderie among friends. Simultaneously, another group chose to stay on campus, relishing the opportunity to unwind at a charming cafe nestled close to the school for some tea and snacks with teacher Nae. Overall, it was an action packed weekend full of fun activities for everyone!

Home - School Partnerships - PSC Monthly Parent "Meet Up"
βMeet Upβ is a platform for the whole school community. It is a forum where we can focus and address school community-related topics. Parents, students, and staff can suggest ideas, and share information and initiatives that enrich and improve our school community.
This month, our PSC meeting theme focused on the importance of Home - School Partnerships and parent participation.
Parent - School relationships are essential components of a child's educational journey. A healthy collaboration between parents and school creates a holistic and supportive environment that can influence our child's academic achievements, their social and emotional development, and improve wellbeing.
We would like to thank parents who attended our November meeting last Tuesday, and to parents who provided questions and suggestions in advance. If you were unable to attend, please review the slides available here or via your Grade or Cultural Line/WeChat Groups.
