Pastoral Care

We provide a supportive, caring, and inclusive environment through small omeroom class sizes, strong relationships between students and staff, and a robust and engaging social, emotional, health and economic curriculum, all within a stunning countryside setting where there are lots of opportunities to connect with nature. All of our staff members are active in the provision of Pastoral Care to students and families in the spirit of our school guiding statements.

Our pastoral programme can be best summarised by the following 4 Cs:

Care: student care and wellbeing
Curriculum: exciting and meaningful pastoral curriculum (Connections) focusing on social, emotional, health and economic sessions
Character: student self-development
Community: building a supportive and kind community

Homeroom

Pastoral care is delivered through our Homeroom system. Students each have a dedicated Homeroom teacher with whom they meet on a daily basis. Homeroom teachers are responsible for the wellbeing and development of each student within their group, and they are often the first point of contact for parents.

Connections

Connections is our bespoke timetabled curriculum programme for exploring social, emotional, health and economic topics. It runs from Grade 6 through to Grade 12, and is delivered every week through sessions from our school Counsellors, Homeroom teachers, outside experts, or other key staff.

Connections is designed to provide our students with the awareness, tools and advice that they need to help them develop and grow, and covers the knowledge and skills needed to embark on a life beyond Prem.

In Connections, our students learn about their bodies and staying healthy, and about relationships, friendships and sexual intimacy. They are taught about the risks associated with alcohol and drugs, about keeping safe online and building a positive digital footprint. Other sessions cover resilience, diversity, sexual orientation and gender identities, as well as  the basics of finance decision making and living in the wider world. We encourage our students to look inward to know themselves better, and to look outward to understand the world around them and to be well prepared for the next steps in their journey.
