With very high Air Quality Index (AQI) readings, the Physical Education team have been looking at different ways to engage children with movement and health, while reducing and limiting the amount of ‘huff and puff’ and exposure to the smoke.
Sometimes we are in our Homeroom classes exploring Yoga and mindfulness, developing strength and flexibility in our muscles. Other times we are able to explore dance, developing our own compositions and movements, or perhaps learning an old dance and putting it to different music. Some classes are exploring body systems, such as the respiratory and circulatory system, finding out how these respond to exercise and how we keep them fit.
Our students are responding very well to the change in routine and enjoying these new activities. If you are looking for ways to explore movement at home while being locked indoors when the AQI is high, try some of these great ideas from Youtube: Just Dance Kids, Cosmic Yoga, Pilates or perhaps Tai Chi.
