The Power of Passion

Our Grade 9 English Language and Literature students have been studying a unit on poetry entitled ‘The Power of Passion’. Students have been examining a wide breadth of contemporary and classic poems, learning to analyze them by applying their critical thinking skills. One such activity was a close analysis of Robert Frost’s ‘The Road Not Taken’.  A creative, formative exercise followed whereby students were asked to think carefully about choices in life – a key theme in the poem – and create their own version of Frost’s poem using that as an overarching concept. They also added visual elements to enhance the message of their poem.  The result was a highly original, creative and engaging collection of poems that have been produced into an online book. Let’s celebrate the creativity and passion of these budding poets!
