Junior School welcomes parents to their Open Day
It was our pleasure to welcome families to our Junior School Open Day last week. The morning began with talks about different areas of […]
The International Baccalaureate Programme promotes International Mindedness and Global Citizenship through 10 attributes of the IB Learner Profile. At Prem, we promote the attributes through the Junior School Council at Monday assemblies and support students to understand the attributes through Units of Inquiry, in the playground and around our school. As teachers, we try to ‘catch kids doing good’, making reference to the attributes and tieing these values into the house points system.
This month, our focus attribute is being ‘Principled’ and we are eagerly trying to catch Prem kids displaying this attribute over the coming weeks. So what does that look like and how could you put this into your language with your child? At Prem, we act with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness and justice, and with respect for the dignity and rights of people everywhere. We take responsibility for our actions and their consequences.
As teachers and as parents, we try to foster independence by supporting the child to take responsibility while trying to the right thing, acknowledging that there will always be mistakes and that this is OK when we are so young. Learning to being sorry for those mistakes, being thankful, being kind, and being aware of others around us, goes a long way in helping our children build a peaceful and stress-free environment conducive to learning. Try these ideas at home and see your child thrive in a school that believes so much in these values.
