The JS celebrates World Maths Day

On Thursday 13 October 2016 the Junior School at Prem celebrated Maths day in a multitude of ways.

To start the day, parents of Gr 1-5 were invited to participate in a Parent Workshop. The workshop outlined key features of our Mathematics curriculum and how they can access this through our Prem Parent Portal and unit flyers.

Parents also had the opportunity to participate in a Maths investigation. Investigations are a key element of our Maths programme and give students multiple opportunities to apply their Mathematical knowledge in a variety of ways that are based on interesting and real-life situations that the children may experience. As you can see from the photos, parents were very much engaged in the activities and they could clearly articulate the Mathematical concepts they had applied in the tasks. Thank you to all our parents who attended and for all your enthusiasm.

Following the parent workshop, our children were excited to welcome mum's, dad's, grandparents and guardians into their classrooms to see our Prem Maths curriculum in ACTION! From completing the daily calendar to creating dot and pie graphs, children thoroughly enjoyed the chance to be experts and share their Maths work with their loved ones.

Our last activity of the day, that we cannot forget, was the lunch time Times Table competition organised by the Junior School Council. A big congratulations to all children who were risk takers and took part in this activity and to Water house who are the Times Table champions for 2016.
