The Internet is like a puddle - Internet Safety

I’m a big supporter of play and having fun, as are all of us in the Junior School, and this includes playing games and connecting with friends on the internet.  However, we are also aware that sometimes ‘gaming’ on the internet and messaging friends can come with the need for a bit more caution and discussion with our young kids.  So we are talking with the students about the need to be really thinking about who we are talking or playing with on the internet, and what are the things to look out for and be cautious about.  We have had some lively discussions in Grade 4 & 5 with the use of the book, ‘The Internet is Like a Puddle’, which talks about how some puddles look shallow on top, but they are actually quite deep underneath, and how we can play safely.

This book will be shared with the Grade 3/4 composite class and Grade 3’s this term.  I would also really like to recommend this website for all parents as a fantastic resource to educate ourselves about what our children are engaging with on the internet.  It has on it really easy to read guides on all games such as Among Us, Roblox, social networks and just about everything our kids are looking at!
