As a Director of Music, Chris has successfully led flagship Music Departments for the last 25 years in ‘A’ list Independent Schools both in the UK and abroad, most notably as Director of Music and Tutor to the Choristers, St. John’s College Choir School, Cambridge and more recently as Director of Music at Harrow Bangkok from 2004 – 2020.

Graduating from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, he spent his formative years as professional pianist, composer, arranger and conductor and it is this real-life experience in the professional music world that he has combined with the academic depth and breadth as a music educator; enabling him to have a strong vision for taking things forward in exciting and innovative ways. The setting up of the Prem Academy of Music, although in its infancy is already growing strong foundations for the future.

At the core of his philosophy is ‘music for all and a special platform for those who are clearly very able’. Providing remarkable musical experiences, stimulating learning environments and reputational performances that are as equally rewarding to those involved as they are in ensuring the School’s place at the top of the league table, both nationally and internationally. A snapshot of an outstanding performance is worth a thousand words in any marketing strategy or advertising campaign!

The beginning of the new academic year looks very exciting indeed as new visiting specialist music staff join our team and more students are taking advantage of the individual instrumental lessons program – understanding the links between studying a musical instrument and academic success. Chris will continue to lead on our exciting partnerships and musical collaborations as was evidenced in March 2021 with Prem String students forming part of the Thai Northern Youth Orchestra.
