Justin has worked as an Elementary Principal, PYP Curriculum Coordinator, Early Years Coordinator and as an English as an Additional Language (EAL) Coordinator. Justin holds an MA Education (Educational Leadership and Management) from the University of Bath (UK) and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Victoria (Canada). He also holds a Certificate of International School Leadership from the Principal’s Training Center (UK). Justin has sixteen years of experience working as an IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) educator and school leader across four different IB World Schools in China, Indonesia, Romania and Thailand. Justin began his teaching career in 1997 working as a Kindergarten teacher in New Zealand. He has worked in several schools in Canada, including one position serving as Head Teacher in an isolated First Nations community. He was a Grade 4 classroom teacher for several years.
Justin believes in holistic approaches to education, through which students develop a strong foundation and a life-long love of learning. Justin believes there is value to offering students agency over their own learning, assessing students for the purpose of differentiating instruction, and personalizing learning to meet students’ varying abilities and interests. Justin strives to ensure that the educators he works with hold an enhanced image of the child, perceiving the students in their care as being inherently capable.
In his spare time Justin enjoys spending quality time with his wife and boys who both attend the Junior School at Prem. He likes to practice speaking Mandarin Chinese. In a former life, Justin worked as a sea kayak guide on Vancouver Island, offering base-camp trips in the realm of the orca.
