JUNIOR SCHOOL: A WEEK IN REVIEW
In the Junior School, our week started on Monday with an orientation afternoon for our new families. There was great […]
Prem Scout families caught a break in the rain for an adventure-packed
campout by the lake at Huay Tung Tao last Friday night.
After pitching tents and a first-aid review, we headed to the back of the
lake to learn rock climbing using the three points of contact technique with
an expedient safety harness; we learned ‘slack’, ‘brake’, and ‘rock’
commands.
Scouts learned basic safety for slingshots and had a go as the sun was
setting. We barbecued and played games well into an evening accentuated by
the sounds of the jungle.
At dawn, we enjoyed productive fishing followed by yoga, then set off for a
nature hike. The greatest excitement was yet to come – a bees’ nest was
disturbed, resulting in most of us being stung. We treated ourselves,
carried on, and completed the hike.
By the end of this week our Scouts will have completed, and in many cases
exceeded their rank advancement requirements. Special thanks to A. Anita,
Dr. Ian and Umy, CY, Jessica, Ros, and all parent volunteers, and especially
Khun Aey, for making the program a success.
We hope to offer Scouting to grades 1, 2, and 3 from August 2018 and seek
parents willing to volunteer. No prior experience required. Training will
be provided. Contact A. Anita or Todd.
