On Saturday the 13th of July, we went to SCAD Hong Kong to attend the DIGs design immersion group project. Working with Google executives our goal was to design the future of Google maps. Saturday evening was spent relaxing since most of us had just flown in and needed to adjust. The next day we took a tour of the Gold Coast residence, where the current SCAD students stayed and lived. After that, we were shown around the city to see what Hong Kong’s technocentric city looked like and how it worked. We then returned to the SCAD campus where we formally introduced ourselves with our educators.
During the following intense sessions, we were encouraged to develop our leadership skills and our ability to work as a team. The presentations and critiques helped us to learn about our strengths and skills and encouraged us to take on different roles in order to envisage, develop and expand on initial ideas. We learned techniques for exploring critical thinking and to know how to deal with a crunch of time demands.
After a very serious session, working away deep down in Disneyland’s conference rooms we were let loose on the theme park. It was an amazing experience and we met many young creatives from different countries who we hope to stay in contact with for many years to come.
