Prem will host CMMUN Conference

On 20 – 21 March 2015, we are very excited to be hosting the biggest-ever Chiang Mai Model United Nations conference (CMMUN) here at Prem.

The conference is a joint venture between Ajarn Kirsty, the MUN Advisor, and the new IBCP Hospitality class, who has taken on this conference as a real life ‘event management’ module. They are on a steep learning curve, taking care of a multitude of small details that are involved in organising a conference such as this.

Conference Schedule

The theme for the conference is ‘Human Rights: Freedom from fear’ as issues related to Human Rights are extensive and widespread yet relevant and accessible to our students. Students will be debating in one of five Model United Nations Committees: the Economic and Social council, the Environment program, the Human Rights council, the Disarmament commission and the Security council. They will be debating and trying to resolve a variety of issues ranging from child marriage, to the recruitment of young people by terrorist groups, the accessibility of secure food and water and sustainable production and consumption patterns.

This conference will see participation from schools in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Bangkok, most of whom will be staying overnight at Prem in the VSP accommodation. Prem has the most students it has ever had participating in MUN – with thirty-five student delegates representing United Nations member states, the IBCP hospitality class, and Grade 6 and 7 student "Pages" who will assist during the conference debate. In total over 200 students will be involved and it promises to be a conference filled with intensity and rigorous debate, as well as enjoyment and new friendships, as we work together to try and come up with solutions to some of the worlds most pressing issues.
