This past summer, five Prem IB Career-Related Program students attended SCAD’s (Savannah College of Art and Design) Rising Star program in Hong Kong. Students spent five weeks of their summer taking two classes during the Rising Star Program and also had an opportunity to live in the campus housing and take in various sites around Hong Kong and Macau. Here are some pictures and written accounts of their time this summer:-

“This summer vacation Brian, Mahe, Ploi, Homie, and I enrolled in SCAD’s Rising Star Program. During this program, we had a chance to receive 10 university credits by attending two courses for five weeks. Our class choices were Animation, Computer Graphics, Fashion, Design 100, and Drawing 100. Each of us had different courses depending on our major. I took Animation and Computer Graphics since I already completed the Design and Drawing courses. 

In the Animation class, I was able to learn the process of how to create animation. I had the chance to create animation by connecting lots of layers. Also, each class there was a nude model so we can practice the gesture drawing for human movement. In the Computer Graphics course, I was able to learn different types of application such as Adobe Illustration, Adobe Photoshop, and AutoDesk Maya.

Outside of the class, we are able to learn about Hong Kong’s culture by going to various tourist spots. We also got to experience what it would be like to live like a SCAD student by living in the residence in Hong Kong.“

“Rising Star was an unforgettable experience for me. The program allowed me to travel to another country alone with a few of my peers and gave me the opportunity to experience what it is like to be a university student. 

The first week at Rising Star was hard as I had to get used to my surroundings and had to try and get to know the professor. Though after settling in, I found myself having lots of fun. The professors were always available and the Rising Star students had full access to all the facilities within the university. 

What made Rising Star different from eLearning was the fact that the professors were easier to contact. When struggling with a certain assignment, the professor could help you directly, give you tips and even provide you with some examples. The grading criteria system was fairly similar to the IB so there wasn’t a struggle with the grades. My overall experience was amazing and I would be happy to go and do the program again.”
