Planting rice in EY1

Sometimes learning is a messy business.
After learning about how rice grows, cooking and eating it in class it was time for EY 1 to head to the farm and get planting.
The children learnt about the different parts of the rice plant and compared new seedlings with older plants noticing similarities and differences. Children observed the grain removed from the husk and teachers modelled how to push the root into the soft mud.
With all of this new language and knowledge, it was time for action! The children planted the seedlings in the mud and will re-visit the farm to see what happens next.
Sometimes learning is dirty work but also it is so much fun!
