Throughout Term 1, the EY2 students have been inquiring into how acts of kindness to ourselves, others, and the environment can lead to positive relationships.  We have been working on building strong friendships and getting to know members of our community through the lens of kindness.  Part of this inquiry has led to building relationships with the animals at the farm.  Together, we have learned about what makes the animals feel happy and how we can help to take care of them.

The children have chosen to grow some of the animal’s favorite food, which will soon be planted in the EY2 garden.  After learning that the pigs are nameless, we decided to take action and give them names.  At that time, there was a mommy pig and her two children.  We were surprised to find out during a later farm visit that the mommy had eight babies!  We had to come up with eight new names for these tiny piglets.  Together, the EY2 children decided to give all of the pigs a name that is a type of fruit.

The names that they came up with are:
Mango (Mommy pig), Cherry (older child), Banana (older child), Babies- Strawberry, Lemon, Blueberry,  Rambutan, Apple , Orange, Watermelon, Pineapple, Rambutan
We are looking forward to visiting the pigs in Term 2 while taking care of the them and watching them grow.
