The Prem Young Chefs Challenge took place last Saturday 19 May 2017 at the cooking school. It was a very successful event and highlighted among other things, the strength, talent and diversity of our students.
Ajarn Luke said there was a great atmosphere with a great mixture of nerves and excitement throughout the competition. All those involved gained a great deal from the experience.
The specifications given to the students included a tasty and healthy meal that could be served at the Prem canteen. The contestants had one hour to prepare their recipes.
It was very difficult to award the best dishes, says Ajarn Luke. It was very close and there were only a few points separating all of the contestants. So close in fact that there was a tie with two first and two second places!
In the finish up we had 1st equal with Vithaya who cooked Sweet and sour chicken with peppers) and Olivia who cooked Middle Eastern meat balls, beetroot hummus and green salad.
2nd equal was Andy with his sweet soy braised pork short ribs and Or with his Middle East inspired marinated chicken thigh, red lentil puree and garlic croutons.
3rd went to Vicky with her Rosemary and thyme perfumed breast of chicken, with poached Asparagus and classic mashed potatoes.
Ajarn Luke also said that his was very proud of the way they all committed to the event and were organized in advance with their recipes and ingredients list. He felt the event achieved the goal of promoting creativity and self-challenge.
