Bouncing Back!
All too often, we wait to have self esteem, to have confidence, to have the skills, to do meaningful works. And we wonder why we stay stuck feeling lonely, anxious, disconnected, and depressed? We cannot wait to have positive self worth. If we want self esteem, we’ve got to get out there and do esteemable acts!
You want to feel good? Do good. Next time you’re feeling down, do something for someone else. Preferably, anonymously… and watch the smiles and the glow that happens.
The cracked pot story shows us that all too often, we focus on our flaws. We can’t see beyond them. When we realize that who we are, cracks and all, can be a vessel for love and humanity, we can start seeing the good we are capable of.
It saddens me when I see that we avoid difficulties, we fill our lives with materialistic “things”, we compare ourselves to millionaires and supermodels… and we become increasingly self centered, self-obsessed, and more miserable. This isn’t the formula for good mental health.
Instead, the formula is to face hardships, connect with those who love you (and figure out what that truly looks like), identify your values and what good you will do in this world… and with that will come a time when you can proudly state: Life is tough. But so am I.
