Mental Health Avengers in Grades 9 and 10

This week, we invited members of The Dawn (a mental health centre in Hang Dong) to come and speak to our Grade 9s and 10s about Mental Health. They aptly emphasized that we all have mental health and that our health is on a continuum. They also took the time to elaborate on ways to support our personal mental health (reaching out to talk, journaling, playing sports, connection with family and friends, pets, balanced eating) and what doesn’t (some aspects of social media, not getting enough sleep, comparing ourselves to others, extreme gaming, isolating, etc). They effectively talked about the Avenger characters and how they appear on the screen, and discussed the real-life mental health challenges that the actors themselves contend with, managing very well to show how appearances are not always accurate reflections of who a person is and what they are experiencing.
