One of our Marketing Team, Siddharth, who is a Prem alumnus, has shared his recollection of another time when the world was gripped by a pandemic crisis. In 2009 the H1N1 virus spread around the world. Sid was a boarder.
We can take consolation from his memory that all things pass, and where there is shade there is also light.
“The H1N1 pandemic took place when I was in grade 12, I was 16 at the time and unfortunately got the virus. The situation was very different during H1N1, there was no lockdown and people could still move around freely, however everyone was on edge and travel had reduced significantly. People were scared and everyone was taking precautions.
At Prem quite a few of us in boarding got H1N1 and were put into quarantine on campus at the bunkhouse. I believe around 50 of our students got it.
The virus itself felt like any other flu, we had a fever, cough and felt weak. If I remember correctly we were sick for about a week to 10 days. The last 2 months of school was tough but more due to the curfew which meant we could not go out after our graduation. “
