Literacy Week is coming up in the Junior School

Literacy Week will be taking place across the Whole School from Thursday 21 February – Thursday 28 February. The theme for Literacy Week this year is ‘One World, Many Stories’

Each day there will be different things happening inside and outside of the classroom. Here are just a few things that will be happening…please note these in your diaries.

Thursday 21 February
 International Mother Language Day, the first day of Literacy Week.8:25 am Gr 1-12 will attend an assembly celebrating this day5:55 – 9:55 All JS children will participate in activities with parents in their Mother Language groups, please join other parents in sharing your cultural stories with our students. Friday 22 February – all children wear their house kit to school
Junior School/Middle School Mother Tongue buddy reading in house groups

Tuesday 26 February – Flying Library book collection day for Baan Dek
All children are asked to bring in a good quality English or Thai picture book to donate to the Flying Library for the Baan Dek association. Today we will bring our donations altogether and see if we can make a mountain of books to help others in need.

Wednesday 27 February – LOTE curriculum in action sessions
A chance for parents to come in and join Mandarin and Thai language classes in action, the times are as follows…

Thursday 28 February Come to school dressed as your favourite book character!
Weather permitting, we will have a parade through the JS playground during homeroom time to share with one another our favourite book characters. Please send the book along with your child so they can share the story with their friends throughout the day.

What else can you do at home?
Help us continue the focus of “Prem kids read every day” by reading with your child each day. Our library has a vast range of English books and is constantly adding to our Mother Tongue collection, let’s model for our children what a love of reading looks like!
