International Peace Day is held on each year on the 21 September. It was founded in 1999 by Jeremy Gilley, a documentary filmmaker and actor, who had the desire to create one single day when all countries vowed not to wage war: a worldwide cease-fire and day of non-violence. He established Peace One Day which is now recognised by the United Nations.
The Junior School Council and Grade 5 students want to promote this special day and remind our community of the importance of peace, not just in war-torn countries, but peace within our school, our homes, the wider community and amongst our friends.
On Thursday, 21 September at 2.30pm, we will make an art installation made out of Pinwheels with messages of peace to promote this special day around the world. All parents are invited to join us for this event and feel free to make your own Pinwheel for Peace – here.
