IB Diploma Theatre Students Gabriel Thorup and Rapeewich Bootsabong took part in a showing of work by performing the first 10 minutes of The Dumb Waiter by British Playwright Harold Pinter. The play is about two hitmen stuck in a basement waiting for their next job. Both learners have been studying Russian theatre practitioner Constantin Stanislavski and his ‘System’. This complex system allows actors to close the gap between character and actor and to produce very realistic performances and both students demonstrated grand leaps forward in acting technique. Fellow classmate Nathaporn Thongdee took the behind the scenes role of director and worked with the boys diligently to bring the characters and the context to life. She also designed and operated the lighting.
The year 11 cohort now move on to an entirely different way of performing with German expressionism- watch this space!
