Happy International Women’s Day!

We invited Lucy Northmore, Founder of  The Together Revolution,  to be a guest speaker at our International Women’s Day Breakfast Event. Lucy’s business is a new digital platform and global fundraising model and movement to transform the way the world gives using the power of media, technology, and brand as a force for good!  We caught up with her before the event to find out what inspires her and how she hopes to inspire others.

What does International Women’s Day mean to you?

The mission of International Women’s Day is of course to imagine a world free of bias and discrimination. A world that is diverse, equitable and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Forging together equality and collectively breaking the bias.  Importantly I want to draw your attention to two keywords – TOGETHER and COLLECTIVELY – as the small differences each human being can make as collective action is really what changes the world.

I am biased because I am the Founder of a company called The Together Revolution and this company is about the power of collective action.

If you could give a piece of advice to our students what would it be?

‘Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has’. Margaret Mead.

Please don’t go through life trying to be as small, silent, accommodating, and convenient as possible. Speak your mind even if your voice shakes. Don’t subscribe to extreme forms of modesty, own your beauty, intelligence, power, and energy. Be fierce and unapologetic, always.

Can you tell us about a role model who has inspired you over your career?

That’s a tricky one! I am inspired by a cross-section of professionals and men and women. I think the primary common denominator is attitudinal and those that cut through and make a difference in their field from all walks of life.

We would like to thank Lucy for coming to our event and speaking such powerful words!
