Grade 8 Science - Microorganisms

In science class this week Grade 8 students acted out the spread of an infectious disease such as the mononucleosis virus throughout a population. The population was 8D and 8H.

In this population one person started out with the infection. The infection was spread by the exchange of body fluids such as salvia on a cup that you share with a friend.  We used a clear liquid in a test tube to represent our body fluid and we exchanged body fluids with three people in our class.

After exchanging body fluids with three people, 42% of our class were infected with the virus shown by a pink liquid.

This was a very valuable inquiry and we learned much about being careful.
