This week the Grade 8’s were set a challenge to create a piece of writing so grotesque that it could actually make Ajarn Samatha physically sick! The focus of the unit was to help students understand the important concepts of audience and purpose and how this informs the decisions writers make as to the techniques they will use. Students have been closely examining the engaging writing of Roald Dahl’s autobiography and were focused on emulating his disgusting story of how he had his adenoids removed as a child. There were many highlights including stories about football, learning to ride a bike, and playing on swings as younger children. Students will now focus on writing a suspense story!
