Grade 3 Camp

Camp is always my favourite two days of the whole year. The students get their first opportunity to sleep at school and, for some, their first time sleeping in a tent. The theme of this camp was survival. We wanted to give our Grade 3s the chance to experience something that they had never experienced before, something they would remember for years, and skills to help them in their future. They learned how to safely build and smother a fire, use tools for building structures, first aid for emergencies and navigation so they would never get lost. Their skills were put to the test when they were broken up into tribes and had to pass various challenges from eating questionable foods, making rafts, or solving puzzles. All the while, the tribes had to focus on their communication, teamwork and cooperation. Everyone was a great sport and had big smiles across their faces. We made pizza at the farm and toasted marshmallows over a fire. The students were kind and supportive to each other from setting up the tents on the first day to helping stuff our oversized bags before leaving. I think we are all already counting down the days until next camp!
