Grade 11 Biology students had a chance to extend their learning beyond Prem this week with a trip to Chiangmai University Faculty of Microbiology. Students received lectures from Assistant Professor Dr. Tharat and had the opportunity to participate in various practical experiences that extended their learning beyond the theoretical in both microbiology and biotechnology. Students isolated bacteria from living colonies for staining and identification and spent the afternoon micro-pipetting DNA and practicing forensics techniques associated with DNA extraction, amplification and separation. Special thanks to Andrea Morris (PSC vice-chair) for accompanying students and staff. A. Simon (CL Science and trip organizer) is proud of his students who impressed CMU faculty with both enthusiasm and their capacity to carry out advanced biological methods.
