Moving to a new city is a big step, especially with children. So when the Marketing Team started looking for better ways to help families who are new to Chiang Mai, they asked a group who know a lot about it: our Grade 5 students.

Grade 5 had just started their first Unit of Inquiry of the year, on migration. They’d been looking at why people have moved around the world throughout history, and what that move meant for them. Many of the students have moved country themselves, so they had plenty to say about what it’s like to arrive somewhere new.

The Marketing Team visited Grade 5 to explain what they were hoping to do and to ask for ideas. The students had lots of thoughts about what new families might want to know. After the visit, they decided to go one step further and make a New Family Guide themselves.

Each class took its own approach:

Ajarn Jenny’s class built a website covering life at Prem, packing tips, after-school activities, and their favourite places to eat, visit and live in Chiang Mai.

Ajarn Alix’s class wrote a guidebook.

Ajarn Vicki’s class designed a brochure.

The Marketing Team will be sharing the guides with families joining Prem, so the first advice many newcomers get will come straight from our students. Thank you, Grade 5, for putting so much thought and care into welcoming others. We’re very proud of you!

We were thrilled to open the Young Artist Art Exhibition and Music Performance at the iconic 1921 House, where over 40 of our Grade 10 and Grade 11 MYP Visual Arts students unveiled stunning original artworks. The pieces were inspired by nostalgia, shared memory and the resort’s beautiful teakwood heritage, offering guests a thoughtful reflection on place and history. It was a wonderful showcase of the creativity and craftsmanship our students have developed throughout their MYP Visual Arts journey.

Prem Boarding came together on 24 September for a special evening celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival, honouring three cultural traditions in one shared celebration: Zhongqiu Jie, Chuseok, and Thadingyut. Students filled the boarding house with music, food and light as they marked this meaningful time of year together.

Throughout the evening, students shared presentations and performances celebrating their different cultures. These performances gave the community a chance to learn about and appreciate the different cultures represented within Boarding, each presentation offering a personal window into a tradition close to the presenter’s heart.

Students also enjoyed freshly grilled skewers and traditional treats, and the night closed with a candle-lighting activity. It was a wonderful reminder of the richness of our international boarding community, where students not only celebrate their own traditions but take the time to understand and appreciate those of their peers.

When news of the earthquake in Nepal reached campus, the Prem community laced up their trainers and turned concern into action.

Friday Laps took on a special purpose this term. Students, teachers and staff gathered on the track for a fundraiser aimed at raising both awareness and much-needed support for those affected.

The weather had other ideas. Grey skies gave way to steady rain, but it did little to dampen anyone’s spirits. Runners and walkers of every age took to the track side by side, from our youngest learners to members of staff, each completing laps at their own pace and cheering one another on.

What stood out most was the sense of togetherness. The event was a powerful reminder of the care and global responsibility that sit at the heart of Prem: the belief that, wherever we are in the world, we have a part to play in supporting others.

By the end of the day, the community had raised more than 55,000 baht for the International Red Cross relief effort, helping to provide vital assistance to people and families impacted by the disaster.

A heartfelt thank you goes to everyone who ran, walked, donated, organised and cheered. Your generosity has made a real difference.everyone who participated, supported the event, and contributed to this meaningful community effort!

The Marketplace is more than just an introduction to activities, it is an opportunity for students to challenge themselves and develop new passions beyond the classroom. By speaking directly with activity leaders and asking questions, our students were able to make informed choices and begin shaping their own unique learning journeys. We look forward to seeing how students’ interests and passions develop as they embark on their Exploria adventures!

A huge milestone for Prem! We are thrilled to celebrate the soft opening of the brand new Prem Track with the return of Friday Laps! The new track is set to become the centrepiece of our athletics facilities, a fantastic resource for our student athletes and the wider Prem community, who are all more than welcome to come and use it. There may have been a little rain, but nobody cared! Nothing was going to stop the Prem community from getting out on the track for the first time. This week marks the soft opening, but the best is yet to come. At the start of next academic year we will be hosting a Grand Opening celebration complete with track and field events across the school and maybe even a teacher race or two!

A heartfelt thank you to the Prem parents who advocated for this incredible facility, and to our Board of Governors for making it happen. This one is for the whole community.

Prem International School celebrated its vibrant International Day bringing together students, teachers, parents, and community members under the theme “Many Cultures, One Community.” The event began with the traditional flag parade led by Lung Noi’s Thai drum team, followed by representatives from the many nations within the Prem community. Visitors then explored colourful country booths featuring cultural displays, activities, and delicious food from more than 20 countries, while younger students collected stamps in their International Day passports through quizzes and traditional games.

The day also highlighted student creativity and learning. Grade 5 and Grade 9 students collaborated on projects connected to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which were showcased during the event. A collage competition titled “Country Impressions” displayed the artistic talents of students and teachers, while performances from students, parents, and staff provided music, dance, and cultural celebration throughout the day, making International Day a memorable reflection of Prem’s diverse community.
