Eco-Committee Update

We are sad to inform you that our previous Co-chairs, Jampel and Ethan, have stepped down from their Eco-committee leadership responsibilities. Jampel, Grade 12, has now officially left Prem and is focusing on her university placement and Ethan, Grade 11, would like to take the time to focus more on his studying. Also, L’hansey, our Grade 12 Social Media lead has also stepped down and is focusing on her future beyond Prem. We are very grateful for their energy, commitment, leadership and kindness towards both the Eco-Committee’s vision as well as the natural world in general.

It is an exciting time for the Eco-Committee to re-shuffle and so we are excited to announce that we have new co-chairs: Marie in Grade 8 and Sonam in Grade 11! They have volunteered to take the lead of the Eco-Committee from here onwards, which will be especially important for our Eco-Schools’ re-accreditation visit next academic year. Here is a short interview with our new co-chairs, Marie and Sonam, to find out more about who they are, and why they are interested in sustainability at Prem:

Question: Why did you volunteer to be chair of the Eco-Committee?

Marie: I was in the Eco-Committee from the beginning. I used to have a smaller role and I worked my way up to being the chair.

Sonam: I have always been passionate about the environment, being chair of the Eco-Committee is my way of contributing to the legacy of Bhutan.

Question: What are your goals for the Eco-Committee?

Marie & Sonam: It’s a secret for now!

Question: How will you contribute to helping the Eco-Committee?

Marie & Sonam: We will work together to support the committee. Because one of us is from middle school, and the other is from high school, it allows us to have better collaboration to target the whole school.

Question: What are your responsibilities?

Marie: Helping the environment.

Sonam: To make sure the school is sustainable and maintains the green flag, advocate for environmental sustainability, and my top priority: carry the team with us!

We thank Jampel and Ethan for their contribution to the Eco-Committee and will forever be thankful to them for leading us in the right direction to achieve our Green Flag. Let’s give Marie and Sonam a warm welcome!
