Documentary Making in Grade 6

In our MYP language and literature media unit grade 6 have been investigating what makes an effective documentary. Using our glorious campus as the classroom, the students are collaborating in groups of 4 to script, film, edit and produce a documentary about one of the following areas; biodiversity on campus, water use, the role of the farm or native and non-native species on campus. They have been out of the classroom conducting experiments, interviewing experts and working out how to present this information in their group documentaries. Their focus and attention have been guided by the statement of inquiry, “Directors create documentaries to position audiences to respond in a particular way”.
