The Prem Model United Nations team participated in the biannual Chiang Mai MUN Conference hosted by Chiang Mai International School on 2 March 2017. Eighteen students from grades 6-12 played the roles of diplomats representing countries as varied as Portugal, France, New Zealand, and Cayman Island in UN committees such as the Human Rights Council and Security Council.
These committees debated current events, such as protection of rights of LGBT+, should decolonization be implemented, and how the de-mining of bombs should be facilitated. The conference also included a special committee called General Debate or the Marvel Committee discussing the issue of applying regulations to superheroes.
Two of our team members, Rasnam and Om, were chairs of the Human Rights Council and the Trusteeship Council. Namejs and Simon, representing France in the Trusteeship Council on decolonization, earned the Best Delegate Award in their committee. All of our team members made speeches and contributed to debates and resolutions, and had a memorable time doing it with over 200 students from nine schools.
We look forward to the two-day conference to be hosted by Prem in November 2017!
