Charcoal Portraits on Sunday Morning

Last Sunday, 3 May, boarding students Khyenste, Steven, Leczin and Drayang had the opportunity to experiment using charcoal as a medium to create original portraits.

Students first had a look at the process through which Ajarn Kai (an amateur artist specialising in charcoal portraiture) develops his drawings. Students then chose a photograph, either of a friend or a celebrity from a magazine. Inspired by Indian classical music playing in the background, these young artists laboured for almost two hours before they felt their works of art were complete. Please see the pictures below to admire their masterpieces!
