CAS Pride!

In this space, we will showcase students who display the true essence of CAS – bettering themselves and their community by getting involved, developing skills and having fun.

This week’s student showcase is Gwow.

My first experience with CAS started in Grade 11. I began organizing my thoughts by choosing what I would love and look forward to doing. I wanted to complete my CAS project when everything was still new and fresh, so I decided to run a small charity for people with disabilities with two other friends. It was just the three of us, but we all enjoyed it, as much as the kids at the school did. Altogether, we taught them how to cook, draw, craft, and also communicate with basic English. All of these were things that I’ve never thought I would be able to do and was very proud to be able to share the knowledge that I have learned and gained.

With the 3 CAS strands, I decided to do all of them every term and decided to also write reflections every week. It became a habit – a good habit. Each week, I enjoyed writing my reflections to continuously see how much I have learned and improved from when I have just started. Yoga, VSSF, and painting/drawing clubs were my main activities. Yoga allowed my body to stretch and relax from all the hard work I had done every week. It was a good exercise to relax my brain while strengthening my body. Similar to the painting club, but instead of strengthening my body, I had a chance develop my creativity side,  thinking outside of the box. In Grade 11 term 4, I also had a very good opportunity to lead a small painting club. It was fun, relaxing, and one of the most memorable experiences that I will never forget. The friendship and the teamwork of the members were amazing, which allowed me to show some of my leadership skills.
