Building challenge in Grade 1

What an exciting time as we launched our new inquiry. First, we watched the story of the 3 Little Pigs, and then we talked about the materials they used to build their houses.

We discussed the different properties of the materials and shared our ideas. Then it was time for the Building Challenge!
In small groups, we had to gather our materials and build a small house. Each group had only 1 metre of tape to fasten the sticks together, and there was a time limit too.

Finally, it was time for the buildings to be tested. Would the roof stay on or would it fall down?
We huffed . . . and we puffed . . .  until all of the buildings had been tested.

We learned a lot about teamwork and about building. Our new Unit Of Inquiry has begun!
