Bhutanese Boarders celebrate 60th Birthday anniversary.

Prem’s Bhutanese community celebrated the 60th Birthday anniversary of His Majesty, the fourth King of Bhutan on Wednesday 11 November 2015. Prem Tinsulanonda International School offered its full support.  Ajarn Sonam Yeshey and Ajarn Jurme Choden organised the programme by singing the Bhutanese National Anthem followed by a tribute song for His Majesty the King.  Finally, all students participated in singing “Happy Birthday.” Ajarn Alun, Head of School, Ajarn Linda, Director of Boarding, as well as boarding staff and students were invited to join the celebrations. All the Bhutanese students wore their traditional outfits to pay respect to the King.

Also, on Friday 13 November, all the Bhutanese students and their teachers gathered for a Bhutanese evening to maintain and develop cultural identity. “Driglam Namzha” is the official code of behaviour and manners in Bhutan. It governs how citizens should dress in public and how they should behave in formal settings.  In English, “driglam” translates as "order, discipline, custom, rules and regimen," while “namzha” means "system”.

Authentic Bhutanese fare was also provided.  Ajarn Sonam shared Bhutanese cooking techniques with Khun Daeng, the cafeteria’s Head Chef.  Khun Daeng prepared a delicious Bhutanese meal and boarding students who attended were delighted by the taste of the food. The programme ended with all attendees participating in a traditional Bhutanese dance.
