ASEAN Exploria visits Family Snaps Exhibit
The ASEAN Exploria group visited the Chiang Mai City Arts and Culture Centre to see the photography exhibition Family Snaps: Photographers from Southeast Asia. The exhibition showcased photographs of family at home across the generations from Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Myanmar and Vietnam. According to the Singaporean curator, ‘The artists’ work displays their family members in a collaborative process to create imageries or use the family as a discursive site to explore personal and social issues.’
Students in the Exploria group found the exhibition to be a reflection of the humanity, diversity and sameness of families in ASEAN countries. Noting that the diversity in ASEAN is beyond dress and food, they felt the images displayed life in each of the countries with a common theme of hope.
