ARThailand’s first residency of the year kicks off project work in our Junior and Senior Schools

All of the engagement sessions with a resident artist Ralph Kiggell took place this week. Grade one students had the opportunity to directly explore mark making via creating their very own wood-block print and ideas were brought to life when Ralph created prints of Phoenix’s, mountains and magical rainbow trees. Those same students also collected different surface patterns from in and around the Residency studio, using oil pastels and paper. A. Kate and A. Mayada are going to further develop this experience in their classrooms and we are all excited to see what the end results look like.

Meanwhile our DP visual arts students in grade 11 had the opportunity to learn more about Ralph’s process, investigate his arts practice and the body of work ‘sacred shapes’. This particular selection of prints has been the starting point for these students to examine objects symbols and imagery that they feel are inherently important to their own lives and identity. Diploma students will continue to work with A.Liz to build on this engagement and produce their own unique printed forms.
This Residency has been the first collaboration within  Toot Yung art centre and we look forward to further developing our relationship with them and their portfolio of established and celebrated artists.
Ralph’s current exhibition is on display at Toot Yung  art center until November 15th. details here
