The Faculty

Alun Cooper

Head of School

Alun Cooper became the Head of School at Prem on 01 August 2014. Alun, a British citizen, is a highly regarded international school educator with over twenty-eight years of leading schools worldwide. He has worked with the IB curriculum in the Americas, Asia and Europe, and also has boarding school experience.

His previous role was Head of the innovative Think Global School. Other positions of responsibility have included Headships of the United Nations International School of Hanoi, the International School of Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Antwerp International School (Belgium) and Santiago College (Chile).

He has a master’s degree in Curriculum Design and Educational Management from the University of Southampton, England, and is a graduate in education from the University of Wales, Bangor.

He has a very strong commitment to the holistic education and best practice that the IB represents in encouraging students to fulfil their potential, and to strive not only for academic excellence but to become life-long learners. He has a reputation as a community builder and also brings a working relationship with extensive international networks in the educational world.
 He is accompanied by his wife, Mary, an experienced Montessori-trained teacher.

Wannapa Suksang

Thai Director

Wannapha Suksang or Ajarn Tiew has a BA in English from Lampang Rajabhat University and an MEd in Elementary Education from Chiang Mai University.

She also completed a Diploma course in Educational Administration and Management and received a BEd in teaching Thai Language from Sukhothai Thammathirat University.

Ajarn Tiew was the recipient of an Excellent Teacher Award in 1999 and is a qualified ONESQA Assessor.

Lee Stevens

Athletics and Activities Director

Prior to joining Prem, Lee has served in the British Council in Chiang Mai, Nakorn Payap International School also in Chiang Mai and most recently in Traill International School in Bangkok.

Lee holds a BA (Hons) in Social Sciences from Manchester Metropolitan University, a B.Ed from the University of Winnipeg and a Masters in Athletic Administration from Endicott College in the United States. Lee also holds current coaching qualifications, most particularly in football.

Lee has one son, who plays football in England, and one daughter who studies at Prem.

Lee is interested in playing numerous sports and amongst those he mentions; soccer cycling, golf, badminton, basketball and Triathalons.

Stacey Taylor

Director of Library and Media Services

Prior to joining Prem, Stacey has served in school libraries in a number of different capacities since 1985 and has also taught Theory of Knowledge to IB Diploma students. From January 2016, Stacey has served as the Acting Director of Global Connections at Kambala in Australia.

Stacey has a Bachelor of Arts in Library Science from Kuring-gai in Sydney, A Masters of Information degree from the University of Technology in Sydney and a Graduate Diploma of Teaching and Learning from Charles Darwin University.

Stacey’s interests include travelling, reading and cooking. Stacey is passionate about swimming.

Simon Hobbs

Director of IT

Simon Hobbs is from the United Kingdom and is our Director of IT. Simon graduated from the University of Bournemouth with a BA in International Business Administration (major in IT Management) and subsequently from Liverpool Hope University College with a PGCE in 2003. Simon has taught in England, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and most latterly in China as an ICT Integration specialist as well as a Director of IT. Simon is a mountaineer, rock climber, runner, plays soccer and enjoys playing the guitar. Simon is accompanied by his wife.

Roxanne Hickie

Director of Admissions

Roxanne Hickie, from the United Kingdom is our new Director of Admissions. Roxanne graduated from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, in 2004 started her professional career in Thailand, before joining the University of East Anglia in 2007 in admissions in the Faculty of Social Science. In the last nine years, Roxanne has led many initiatives in the University of East Anglia, most latterly in international student recruitment; which sharpened her nascent marketing skills. Roxanne will be accompanied by her partner, Michael, and her daughter, Lauren, who will be enrolled in our Junior School.

Amandine Lecesne

Counsellor

Amandine Lecesne is in her 5th year of working at Prem. Amandine is a French/American citizen and has a BA with honours in Psychology from UC Davis USA, and a Master’s degree with honours in Counselling Psychology from Capella University, USA. She has worked as a counsellor for 15 years, working both with adults and children. Her parallel passion is helping street dogs. She co-founded the shelter “Care for Dogs” in Chiang Mai in 2006 and runs our Hand to Paw program here at Prem.

Amandine speaks French and English fluently. She is committed to providing quality workshops and compassionate sessions for students and their families.

Alex Soulsby

Coordinator for Strategic Creative development

Alex is an International Creative Education Consultant with over 18 year’s experience of Teaching, Arts Advocacy, Creative Projects Management and educational management.

His project work has been twice nominated for the prestigious British, National Charity Award and he has been both a project lead on National Arts campaigns in the UK and a strategic advisor to International Schools and Children’s Arts Organisations.

Outside of work as a photographer and artist, his clients have included the Royal National Theatre London, Arts Council England, English Touring Theatre and Orchestras Live. To date his work has appeared in publications and websites including the Guardian, Observer, Daily Mail and Grazzia Magazine, as well as on the BBC and Channel 4 in the UK.

Susan Morgan

Art

Susan was a pre-school teacher at the Ivy Hill Pre-school in New Jersey, USA, for three years and was owner and teacher at her own alternative pre-school in Chiang Mai for five years. She has conducted Early Education workshops for Burmese refugee women and teachers and has a wide range of experience teaching at other international schools.

She has a BA in Art and Culture, an Art Students League of New York coursework certificate equal to a BFA in art and education qualifications from the Brookdale Community College. She also has a Master in Art Education from the University of Nebraska, Kearney.

Susan is also an artist and lecturer who recently gave a talk on 100 Years of Thai Women Artist at the National Art Museum in Bangkok.

In 2010, Susan was a guest lecturer at Chiang Mai University’s Language Institute where she gave talks on her research work related to food and spirit worship in Thailand.

Susan is the co-producer and videographer for the documentary Threads of Life: Hemp and Gender in a Hmong Village (1994) which premiered at Asia Society in New York and Hong Kong. During the 1980s, Susan was the personal assistant for Christo and Jeanne-Claude, and had the great opportunity to work with them on Surrounded Islands: Project for Miami and Pont Neuf: Project for Paris. She has written articles including Skydancers & Other Mystiques Works by Skowmon Hastanan. Susan has also exhibited her own work in New York and Chiang Mai.

Susan is currently engaged in studies for her Master’s degree in art education from the University of Nebraska, Kearney.

Igor Van Bever

School systems manager

Belgian Igor Van Bever has been working with the Three-Generation Farm programme and as a volunteer in boarding for the last year. He has been a valued member of the boarding community, and we are delighted that he is now a member of the Prem staff.

Igor studied at the University of Ghent in Belgium where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in psychology. He has also studied biology and biomedical sciences. Igor is taking on the role as Cultural Learning Mentor and House and Activity Co-ordinator in Boarding. He is very well suited for this position, as he has a passion for cycling, squash, aikido, kite surfing and spinning.

Yuwadee Makpan

Thai

Yuwadee Makpan has a Master of Education in Teaching Thai from Chiang Mai University, a BA and a Dip Science in Education. She taught at a bilingual school for three years prior to coming to Prem. Ajarn Yuwadee has been teaching Thai language and culture classes at Prem since 2005. She has completed IB PYP and IB MYP Language Acquisition training.

Yuwadee is keenly interested in environmental education, meditation, sport, music, and the arts.

Emily Gumb

School Counsellor

Emily comes from London, England where she graduated with both a Degree and a Masters Degree in Health Education and Community Studies. Her career spans over 20 years of working with, supporting and helping young people firstly within social services in London and more recently here in schools in Thailand.

Emily moved to Thailand in 2010 due to a passion for Muay Thai and just fell in love with living and working here. She has a young son who will be joining the school in Early Years and she is truly excited to be able to help and support the community here at Prem.

Khaekhai Maimaytee

Ajarn Kik works across the PYP and MYP programmes as a Thai Language and Culture teacher.

Khaekhai Maimaytee or Ajarn Kik has a B.A. in Mass Communication and M.S. in Counseling Psychology from Chiangmai University. She also has B.ED. in Guidance and B.A. in Thai Study from Sukhothai Thammathirat University.

Prior to joining Prem, Ajarn Kik has worked in a number of International Schools in Chiang Mai. She has a particular interest in working with students to develop their understanding of Thai Culture.

Sukullaya Utalert (Aree)

IT Manager, School Network Manager

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering from Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi.
Master’s Degree in Master of Information Technology and Management from Chiang Mai University.
Certification in MCSA (Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate), MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional), MCTS (Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist), CCNA(Cisco Certified Network Associate), Mac OS Support Essentials, iOS Deployment.

Keiko Shofu

Learning Support

Keiko, from Japan, is a learning support teacher and joined Prem in August 2018. She has 10 years of teaching experience, and before arriving in Chiang Mai, she taught in Guatemala, Honduras, and Vietnam as a learning support teacher and a classroom teacher. Keiko holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Baika Women’s University and in Early Childhood Education from the University of Northern Iowa. She also has a Masters of Education degree with an emphasis on Special Education from the University of British Columbia. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, exploring new cultures, finding new restaurants, dancing, and spending time with her friends and family.

Anita McCallum

Junior School Principal

Anita has held previous posts as Vice-Principal, Curriculum Co-ordinator, Subject Leader and teacher in schools in Muscat, the Sultanate of Oman, and in Canberra, Australia.  
She holds a Bachelor of Teaching, a Bachelor of Education and a Master’s degree in Education, with a major in Educational Leadership, from the Australian Catholic University. She is a First Steps trainer, and holds sports coaching certificates for netball and touch football.

Anita is particularly interested in Inquiry Learning, the teaching of English and the effectiveness of ICT programmes in schools.
She is also a gourmet cook! Anita is joined at Prem by her husband Patrick and their daughters, Grace and Olivia. Anita McCallum joined Prem as the new Junior School Principal in August 2014. Anita, an Australian citizen, previously held the position of Primary Principal at Ajman Academy International School, UAE, where she introduced the PYP and led the school through its IB PYP authorisation process.

Mark Bowyer

PYP Co-ordinator

Mark gained extensive experience of the IB programmes during his time at Kristin and at Seoul International School, as well as other schools in New Zealand and England. He holds a master’s degree in education with a physical education and TESOL focus (University of New England, Australia), a BEd (Massey University NZ) and a Diploma of Teaching (Auckland College of Education). Previously Head of Junior School Physical Education at Kristin School in New Zealand, Mark joined Prem in August 2012 as the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme Co-ordinator.

Tamayo Gaysek

Early Years 1

Tammy has a BA in Social Sciece from the University of California at Berkeley and holds a California teaching credential. She is trained and experienced in various Early Years programmes including PYP. She has previously taught in the USA and Bangladesh. By researching best practice in different countries, Tammy promotes internationalism and inquiry-based learning. Tammy’s interests include spending time with her family including her two children, Noa and Mia, discovering new favourite restaurants and travelling to exotic places.

Mary Cooper

Early Years 2

Mary Cooper, from the UK, joined the Early Years team in August 2014. Mary says that she is a “passionate practitioner” who takes Early Years development and education seriously, and she also recognises the value of fun in learning. She has taught Early Years children at the International School and Rainbow School in Vietnam, Antwerp International School in Belgium, and Craighouse School and Rayhue Montessori School in Santiago, Chile. She has a Diploma in Pre-school Practice from the Pre-school Learning Alliance.

Kate Rock

Grade 1

Prior to joining Prem, Kate was a Grade 2 class teacher in London, UK. She has worked with students from EY1 – Grade 5, and has had leadership experience in a number of schools as the Science Coordinator. Kate is an enthusiastic and imaginative teacher with over 20 years of successful classroom experience. She is passionate about her work and strives to create exciting lessons that engage and extend her students. Kate believes in the importance of developing the reading skills of all her students, and tells her class that ‘Reading is the Key’ that will unlock the rest of the curriculum.

Kate has a Bachelor of Arts degree, with Qualified Teacher Status, from Warwick University, UK. She also has a diploma in Counselling Skills from London Metropolitan University and is a Certified Life Coach. Kate’s hobbies include reading, photography, singing, learning Thai and discovering new, delicious foods.

Taura Khongsat

EY3 Teacher

Taura comes from a small town in America. She has been teaching for ten years in international schools in Asia. Taura graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education with a focus on the Reggio Emilia approach. Joining her in Chiang Mai is her husband, Pek, and their daughter, Mali. In her free time, Taura enjoys cooking and baking, going to markets, being crafty, traveling, going to the beach, gardening, and camping.

Katie Brailsford

Grade 3

Katie Brailsford, from Canada, is a Prem Junior School homeroom teacher. Katie completed her studies at Trent University and Queen’s University in Canada where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education. Prior to joining Prem, Katie taught at CIS Beijing where she was the lead teacher for her grade level team. Katie has attended numerous PYP training courses and is a strong believer in inquiry based learning, developing fresh ideas and creative ways and strategies to engage students through provocations and lessons.

Jeremy Gaysek

Grade 4

Jeremy is well-versed in PYP practices with eleven years of PYP experience. He was previously working at International School Dhaka, Bangladesh. Jeremy is also an IB Workshop Leader, and he has trained other professionals in Creativity, Digital Citizenship, Introduction to PYP, Mathematics and Language Arts. He has a California Teaching Credential certified to teach Kindergarten through Grade 12. He has a BSc in Human Development and an MA in Curriculum and Instruction, both from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in the USA. Jeremy has also helped to open a children’s learning center in Redwood Shores, California. When he is not teaching, Jeremy enjoys traveling with his wife (Tammy) and children (Noa and Mia). His interests include turntable mechanics, rhythmic studies and music appreciation.

IB Workshop Leader

Gillian Turner

Grade 4

Gill is a Junior School homeroom teacher and most recently taught Grade 5 at Dubai International Academy, an IB World School in Dubai. Gill’s experiences the past thirty years include teaching all primary levels in schools in the UAE, Qatar and Australia. She also has experience leading the PYP Exhibition and she has led student well-being teams along with school-wide kitchen / garden programmes. Gill has a Diploma of Teaching (Primary) from Burwook Teachers’ College and a Post Graduate Diploma in Mental Health for the Teaching Profession from Monash University, both in Victoria, Australia.

Patrick McCallum

Grade 5

We welcomed Patrick McCallum, an Australian citizen, to the Junior School in August 2014. Patrick has taught Year 5 and 6 classes at Ajman Academy in the UAE and Year 5 at The Sultan’s School, Sultanate of Oman, and various grade levels in Australia. Patrick has a Bachelor of Teaching from the Australian Catholic University and joined Prem with his wife, Anita McCallum, the new Junior School Principal, and their daughters, Olivia and Grace.

DianLiang Wang (Peter)

Mandarin Teacher

Prior to joining Prem, Dianliang Wang has experienced teaching Mandarin for over 12 years by serving as a mandarin curriculum head in Tunas Muda International School and Binus International school in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Diangliang Wang is from China holding a BA in Chinese literature from Heibei Yan San University and being qualified as Senior Chinese Language teacher by International Profession Certification Association. He is passionate in working with children and strives to transfer the life-long learning strategy to students leading them to achieve their full potentials beyond language itself.

Agnes Wdowik

Learning Support Teacher

Agnes, originally from Poland, has a Master’s degree in Education, from The Bronisław Czech Academy of Physical Education, in Kraków University, Poland; and a PGCert in Special Education from the University of Nottingham. She also has a Choreography Instructor certificate in Contemporary Dance, from Nowohuckie Culture Centre, Kraków and an Instructor Certificate of Fitness from the Fitness School B. Buchowicz, Kraków.

She has been living and working in International and Special-Needs schools abroad, for the past 12 years. This is her 8th year with Prem. She started as a Boarding Parent, before joining the teaching faculty. For the past five years she has been a Learning Support Teacher in the Junior School.

As an SEN teacher, she appreciates the uniqueness of each student and loves finding different ways to allow students to be successful, often incorporating kinesthetic activities into their learning programmes.

Agnes is passionate about dance, drama and the arts, so she enthusiastically joined the Production Team and has been choreographing and coordinating for both Senior and Junior School Productions at Prem, for the past 7 years.

And finally, when she is not at school… Agnes enjoys travelling, photography, reading and motorbike adventures.

Fanqi Zeng

Mandarin Language Teacher

Qi comes from China. She holds a BA in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (TCFL) from Beijing Language and Culture University and another BA in International Finance. Qi is a qualified ESL/ESOL teacher with abundant English and Chinese teaching experience. She is fluent in two Chinese dialects on top of Mandarin and English, and she continues to learn Thai. As a language learner and teacher, she fully understands the power of language and the challenges in language learning.

Paul Jasmins

Grade 5

Paul Jasmins, from Canada, joins the Junior School as a Grade 5 homeroom teacher. Paul completed his studies at York University in Toronto and University of Ottawa where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education respectively. He has an additional EAL qualification, and is in the process of completing a qualification in Special Education.

Prior to joining Prem, Paul had taught the PYP in Hong Kong, Chiang Mai, as well as taught English as a Second Language in elementary schools in Hiroshima, Japan. Paul is a strong believer in fostering a classroom culture of independence and social responsibility where students see themselves as confident and imaginative authors and collaborators.

Renuka Suayan

Renuka Suayan or Ajarn Noina is a Thai language and culture teacher in the Junior School.

Noina obtained her Bachelor Degree in Thai language and literature at Chiang Mai University and a Master ‘s Degree in Education, with a major in Elementary from Chiang Mai University. She has experience teaching Thai language and culture in International schools for 14 years before coming to Prem in 2015.

Ajarn Noina interested in cooking and baking and she loves working with young people.

Colette Hirst

English as an Additional Language

Colette Hirst, from the United Kingdom is the English as an Additional Language teacher in the Junior School. Before joining Prem, Collette most recently taught at the Steve Jobs school in Alicante, Spain and is a qualified and experienced teacher and counsellor working with students in a range of educational settings in the United Kingdom and Spain. Having completed her BA in Education at Huddersfield University, Colette has gone on to study counselling and numerous other courses in the UK. Colette loves travelling and learning new languages and cultures and seeing new places. She is joined at Prem by her daughter in the Junior School.

Laurent Chiarelli

Music

Laurent Chiarelli, from Belgium. Laurent is our Junior School Music teacher. Laurent obtained his Bachelor Degree in Education (English and Dutch as a second language) at ISELL Sainte-Croix College of Education, Liege, Belgium. In addition to this degree, he has also completed Thai classical music studies at Natasin College of Dramatic Arts, Chiang Mai, and Music and Drama at “Cesar Franck” music and theatre academy in Vise, Belgium. Prior to joining the Junior School, Laurent has taught English in the Intensive English Programme at Prem, lectured in English and French at Chiang Mai University. Notably, Laurent is the Co-founder/President of the “Sangob Foundation”, in Mae Taeng, Thailand. Laurent has a strong taste for learning and for challenges and enjoys music, philosophy, meditation, travel, culture and literature in his spare time.

Anocha Poowapittayanon (Aey)

Junior School Secretary

Anocha  Poowapittayanon (Aey) has a Bachelor degree in Business English from Rajamangala University of Technology Chiang Mai. Her interests include sports, cooking and adventure traveling. She is the Junior School Secretary.

Jeff Marquis

Senior School Principal

Hailing originally from London, Ontario Canada, Jeff has been living internationally (Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Brazil, Korea, and Bulgaria) for 24 years since he received his Bachelor degree from the University of Waterloo and teaching certification from Western University in Canada. With his wife, Angela and 3 children, Kenan, Hannah, and Sophia, the Marquis’ have enjoyed their international experiences at every turn. Jeff also holds Master of Educational Leadership – School Principal degree.

Jeff’s career in international education includes teaching IB Geography, Computer Science, Information Technology, and TOK, as well as Computer Graphics, and Service Learning. Additionally, he has served in the roles of Athletic Director, Assistant Middle and High School Principals, and most recently Secondary Principal.

Jeff’s passions include his family, cottage life on Lake Huron, developing teams, tending to his ever expanding perennial garden, running, the beach with his family and watching baseball preferably in a stadium he hasn’t visited before. Jeff also keeps active, coaches, and plays various sports when time permits.

Simi Shah

Deputy Senior School Principal, Mathematics Teacher

Simi is a highly qualified and experienced teacher of mathematics and technology. She joins us most recently from the British School of Jakarta where she was the Head of Mathematics and Computer Science. She taught in the UK for seven years before going abroad – this is her third international posting. Before teaching she worked in the technology industry and is a certified google educator.

Simi is joined at Prem by her 10th grade daughter Priya.

Andrew Parlby

MYP Coordinator; PE, Science Teacher

Andrew is from Nottingham, in the United Kingdom. He has a B.Ed Honours in Movement Studies and Science from The University of Greenwich. He started teaching Science and Physical Education in Kent, before moving Internationally in 2003. His International Journey started in Milan, Italy, then a move to Lisbon, Portugal from 2010 to 2016. For the last two years he has been working in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

During his 6 years in Portugal, he worked as the MYP coordinator, leading and introducing the online MYP exams. He is a workshop leader for the IBMYP as well as a consultant for candidate schools.

Andrew moved to Prem with his wife and two children. He is a fan of both playing and watching sports, listening to music and going to concerts.

Elisabeth ‘Beth’ Wojciuk

IBCP Coordinator, Learning Support Teacher

Before coming to Prem, Beth was teaching in public schools in Wisconsin working with a variety of students with various learning difficulties. She graduated from St. Ambrose University with a BA in History and then received her Special Education degree from St. Mary’s University in Minnesota. Beth love to travel and take in various cultures and wonders from around the world. She has many nieces and nephews that enjoy when she goes home in the summer and bring them trinkets from her travels. Beth enjoys reading, being with friends and staying up at all sort of odd hours still following her favorite American Football teams. GOOOO Badgers!! Go Pack Go!!

Catherine Schlei

IBDP Coordinator; TOK, Language Teacher

Cathy holds a BA in History, an MAT in Spanish and a Diplôme Universitaire, Société Française in French from the Université Aix-Marseille. Originally from the Bahamas, Cathy has 32 years teaching experience and has taught in The U.S., the Bahamas, France, Vietnam, and most recently in Phuket before joining Prem in 2016.

In addition to teaching DP ab initio Spanish and ToK Cathy is the IBDP coordinator. She is also an IB examiner for Spanish Ab Initio.

Cathy enjoys reading, tennis, skiing, cooking and spending time with her soi dogs in her free time.

Bernard Autet

French Teacher

Bernard Autet, a French national, Bernard is a French teacher in the Senior School. Bernard rejoined the school after stepping in for six months in 2014 and continues where he left off teaching both MYP and IBDP courses. Bernard is the former Head of Language B at the British International School in Phuket where he taught from 1998 to 2013. Bernard has both a BA and MA from Nantes University in France and qualified as a teacher in Montreal where is also worked as a language teacher.

Mark Bosworth

Digital Design, Product Design Teacher

Mark Bosworth, along with his wife Ros and their two young children, began his new life at Prem in August after having lived in Beijing where he was the Head of Design Technology at Harrow International School, and Ros was a school nurse. Prior to this, British citizen Mark worked at The British International School, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and at the Shanghai Rego International School in China as Head of Design Technology.

Mark holds a bachelor’s degree with honours in furniture design from Bournemouth University and a PGCE from Brunel University, London. He is an active member of after-school activities in the classroom and on the sports field specialising in rugby, football, shooting, orienteering and athletics.

Sukanya Charpentier

Thai Teacher

Sukanya “Boo” Charpentier has been teaching Thai language and culture classes at Prem since 2007. She holds a Master of Arts degree in teaching Thai language from Chiang Mai University and a bachelor’s degree in Thai language and Literature from Prince of Songkra University.

Prior to joining the staff at Prem Boo was a language teacher in the Faculty of Business Administration and Liberal Arts at Rajamangala University of Technology. When now sharing her love of her native Thailand, she enjoys travelling, watching movies and gardening.

Camilla Cook

Curriculum Leader of Language A, English Teacher

Camilla Cook, from England, is a teacher of MYP and IBDP English and also Curriculum Leader for the Language and Literature team. She joined Prem from London where she had been the Director of Learning at The Hackney Pirates. Prior to that role Camilla was an English teacher at the Academia Britanica Cuscatleca in El Salvador and she is also an IBDP English examiner. She has a joint BA in English and the History of Art from the University of Leeds in the UK and a MA in Media, Culture and Education from The Institute of Education. She is a Spanish speaker who enjoys sports, especially tennis, hockey and cricket as well as animation and filmmaking.

Mala Dorset

Mathematics, Science Teacher

Mala Dorset is a Grade 6 Homeroom Teacher and teaches Senior School mathematics, science and IT.

She is a graduate of the Dunedin College of Education in New Zealand and has taught science, physical education and mathematics at schools in Lao and England.

She is an experienced MYP and PYP teacher.

Alan Fleming

Grade Level Leader 11 & 12; Psychology, TOK Teacher

Alan Fleming teaches Psychology, English B and Theory of Knowledge in grades 11 & 12. He is also the Grade Level Leader for those grades.

He holds degrees in Philosophy, Psychology, Legal Studies and Teaching. Given his educational background, Alan integrates critical thinking and philosophy into every class he teaches. When not philosophizing with students, Alan likes to run long distances and make short documentary films.

Daniel Foggo

HPE, Humanities Teacher

Daniel Foggo has dual citizenship – Ireland and New Zealand – and is a graduate of the Auckland College of Education, NZ.

He has taught at Vientiane International School (Lao), Parnell College (NZ), Barclay Primary Schools (UK) and Fulham Prep School (UK) where he was also Head of Sport.

At Prem he teaches Health and Physical Education to Grades 6 – 10.

Catherine Forsayeth

English Teacher

Bitten by the IB bug in 2006, Catherine has taught in four international schools plus Prem, alongside teaching in Australia. She loves her job, her students and colleagues and thinks she is the luckiest person in the world to do what she love every day. Catherine was born in Australia to a very large Irish Catholic family and has four grown up daughters and a Portuguese husband. She loves the creative life and is an exhibiting painter, published writer and musician, which she incorporates these things into her teaching practice.

Claire Gordon

Drama Teacher

Claire has been teaching drama since 2004 and has had the privilege of being inspired year in and year out by a diverse range of amazing young people, who have taken the risk to tread the boards with gusto and unending enthusiasm. From short devised performances to full scripted plays, she is passionate about enabling young people to take the word from page to stage. To not only entertain but to educate and ignite the imaginations of the audiences who come to see as well as themselves as participants.

Kirstina Green

Curriculum Leader of Humanities; Humanities teacher

Kirstina Green joined Prem in August 2012 as a Senior School Humanities teacher.

She has a bachelor’s degree and a diploma of teaching, both awarded in her home country of New Zealand, and a master’s degree in educational leadership awarded by Framingham State College, Massachusetts USA.

She has taught in New Zealand, Korea and England and for four years was heavily involved in the Model United Nations (MUN) at Seoul International School, where she was Student Advisor and co-ordinator of MUN excursions to The Hague and Beijing. She coordinated the Seoul MUN conference.

Kirstina has a background in piano and clarinet, enjoys yoga, cooking, reading and travelling, and is also a cricket, soccer and volleyball coach.

Simon Grimmer

Curriculum Leader of Science; Science Teacher

Simon Grimmer comes to PTIS most recently from Bonn, Germany, but has taught internationally for more than 10 years across 3 continents. Simon grew up on a farm in rural New Zealand and received his Bachelors degree in Kinesiology (BPHED) and Post-Grad Diploma in Teaching here. He has delivered IB MYP and DP programmes for as long as he has been abroad and is an experienced IB examiner. Simon has a passion for outdoor pursuits and nature which he is looking forward to sharing with PTIS students alongside his love of science.

Rob Handley

Science Teacher

Rob came to Prem in 2007 from Saint Stephen’s International School in Bangkok, having previously taught in the UK and on Saint Helena Island in the South Atlantic Ocean. He is a qualified engineer and worked in Control Systems design and integration in the UK and Europe for many years prior to his teaching career.

He holds a first-class Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Staffordshire University), a PGCE in Secondary Education (Manchester Metropolitan University), a Diploma in Industrial Management (Staffordshire University), a Higher National Certificate in Electrical Engineering (Staffordshire Polytechnic) and a Michelin Technical Apprenticeship.

At Prem, Rob is the Curriculum Co-ordinator for Science and teaches Diploma Physics, MYP Science and Senior School Mathematics. He also runs the Audio Visual Group which involves students in managing the sound and lighting for school productions and assemblies.

His interests include playing blues harmonica, drums and vocals, performing live or in a recording studio, motorcycling and spending time with his family.

Mtheto Kadoko Hara

English Language Acquisition Teacher; Boarding Parent

Mtheto Kadoko Hara is from Malawi and joined Prem as a Boarding Learning Mentor in August 2016. Currently he will be serving as a Boarding Parent in Cluster 11 as well as a Language Acquisition Teacher in Senior School.

Mtheto has a BEd in English from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa. He taught English as a Second Language in Malawi from 2007 to 2012 before engaging in youth empowerment projects in Nairobi,Kenya.

He has published some poetry and a short story, and spends most of his free time writing , producing and performing rap music. His music is available online under the stage name “Cooletic Muzek.”
He is married to K. Aey who works in Junior School.

Elizabeth Hassall

Curriculum Leader of Arts, Arts teacher

Elizabeth holds a BA(Honours) in Fine Art from the University of the West of England as well as a PGCE in Education from University of Bristol. She is also a graduate of the BTEC Art & Design from Burton Upon Trent College.

Elizabeth joins us from the International School of Brunei where she was the Head of Arts and Global Issues Coordinator teaching IB and IGCSE Visual Arts. She has more than 10 years international school experience teaching in Germany and Brunei. She has been an IB Visual Arts examiner for the past 8 years and is very committed to supporting students through a broad range of co-curricular pursuits.

Jason Hunt

English Teacher

Originally from California, Jason is a teacher of IBDP English and MYP English. He holds a BA in English from Azusa Pacific University, an MA in Literature from National University, California, as well as a California State Clear Teaching Credential. He joins Prem from the International School of Hamburg, in Germany, and has previously taught in China, South Korea and Phuket. He is a senior examiner for the English: Language & Literature course, and a member of both the standardization team and the grade award team for the subject. He enjoys reading, photography, swimming and cooking.

Jason is joined by his wife, Nikki, and their young daughter, Catherine.

Kenneth Baba Jacob

Mathematics Teacher

Always looking to grow and learn, Ken is an explorer of natural patterns and Mathematical beauty. Being thus inspired, he completed his studies in both Physics and Philosophy from the University of Oregon with a Mathematical thesis on 3D Fractals. An American expat, Ken has been teaching overseas for over decade. A lover of life, Ken is accompanied by his best friend and wife along with their youngest daughter. His current hobbies are studying the Electric Universe Theory and Sacred Mathematics along with energy medicine, yoga, meditation/hypnosis and healthy living practices. An out-of-the-box thinker, Ken always sees himself as a beginner and sees mistakes as opportunities for learning.

Mee Ra (Helen) Kim

Korean Teacher

Helen is a highly qualified teacher of Language and Literature holding a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Korean Language Education from Sang Myung University in Seoul.

Helen has been teaching Korean Language and Literature to senior school level students for over 15 years with 10 years of experience overseas most recently coming from the Overseas Family School in Singapore. She is an examiner with the IBO and also enjoys coaching students when the opportunity arises.

Helen is joined by her daughter who will enroll as a full IB Diploma student at Prem.

Lucy Kyte

Mathematics Teacher

Lucy joined Prem as a Senior School Mathematics Teacher in August 2005 having previously taught Mathematics in England and then at the International School Milan, Italy, before moving to the International School Brunei as Head of Mathematics, where she later joined the Senior Management Team as Curriculum Manager for Sciences.

She has a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics and a PGCE from the University of Southampton, England.

She enjoys reading, cooking and chess.

Lisa McSweeney

CP Teacher (Finance and Enterprise)

Lisa is originally from Scotland and has been teaching internationally for 9 years. She has a MA (Hons) in Business and Finance from the University of Aberdeen. After graduating and traveling around the world she has worked in industry for 10 years including positions such as an auditor, trainer and international sales manager. Since becoming a teacher she has taught in Kuwait, Spain, China and now Thailand specialising in Business, Finance and Humanities. Lisa is here with my husband James (PE Teacher) and their two sons; Michael and Joseph. She love the outdoors and take advantage of Prem’s ideal location to hike, run and bike.

Martin Nielsen

Economics, Business Management, Humanities Teacher

Teaching Economics and Business Management in the Senior School, Martin joined Prem in August 2015. He is an experienced international teacher, having served at United Nations International School in Hanoi, Anglo-American School in Moscow and most recently at American International School Lusaka in Zambia. Prior to teaching, he was a commodity futures and options trader at the Chicago Board of Trade.

His qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in international relations, an MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management, and a Masters of Arts in Teaching from National-Lewis University, Illinois USA.

Charles Owuor Ochola

Science Teacher

Charles Owuor Ochola is Kenyan; He joins Prem as MYP Science and IBDP Chemistry teacher. Most recently Charles was the IBDP Chemistry teacher at St. Mary’s International School, Tokyo (Japan) and prior to that he taught at United World College of Southern Africa- Waterford Kamhlaba (Swaziland), The Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi and Makini School (Kenya). He holds a Bachelor of Education (Science) Honours degree; Chemistry and Mathematics double major from Kenyatta University and a Diploma in Science Education (Chemistry, Mathematics & PE) from Kagumo Science Teachers’ College. Charles is an examiner for the IBDP Chemistry and is a CIS Accreditation Evaluator.

He is passionate about sports and will be an assistant Athletics (Track and Field) coach.

Dawn Parry

Careers and College Counsellor, Grade Level Leader 9 - 10

Dawn joined Prem as the Careers and College Counsellor and is also the Grade Level Leader for years 9 and 10.

Originally from the U.K., Dawn has taught in schools in both England and Thailand. She has a B.Sc (Hons) from King’s College London, a P.G.C.E. in Secondary Education from the University of Greenwich and is currently studying for a Masters Degree in Pastoral Care, Guidance and Pupil Support with the University of Aberdeen.

Dawn lives in Chiang Mai with her husband Bob, 6 dogs and numerous birds. In her free time, she enjoys reading, studying British and French history and helps to run an animal welfare charity.

Rajalakshmi Pillai

Mathematics Teacher

Rajalakshmi is Indian having taught in International schools in India, Georgia, Namibia and now in Thailand for the past 14 years. She has a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the School of Education, Boston University and has a Masters in Analytical Chemistry. She is in Thailand with her daughter who will join Grade 7 at Prem. She loves cooking Indian food, reading and listening to music.

Catherine Piper

Academic English Programme Teacher

Catherine Piper, from the UK, joined Prem in August 2012 as an Academic English Programme teacher (AEP) teacher and coordinator. She holds an M.A. in English Language and Literature from Edinburgh University and a PGCE in ESOL from Manchester University.

Catherine has previously worked in Japan in state schools teaching English, then Bangkok, firstly for the British Council, then for Bangkok Patana School for sixteen years. She is joined here by her two children; Jasmine, Grade 10 this year, and Jules in Grade 5.

Catherine is a qualified first aid instructor in Emergency First Response and runs regular courses for staff and students.

Sarah Porter

Humanities, English B Teacher

Sarah Porter has taught in her native USA and in Thailand and comes to Prem having taught most recently at Northbridge International School in Cambodia. She has a master’s degree in education (California State University) and additional degrees in Liberal and General Studies.

Sarah is a middle school specialist with experience of IB programmes and she is teaching across a range of MYP subjects in the Senior School. She has travelled extensively in South East Asia.

Marie Anne Rismann

Curriculum Leader for Language B, English teacher

Marie Anne Rismann is originally from the United Kingdom but has been based in France for a number of years. She is joining Prem as the new Curriculum Leader for Language B. Marie Anne graduated from the University of St Andrews with an MA Honours Degree and subsequently obtained her a PGCE from the University of Cambridge. She also has an Agrégation in English Language and Literature. Marie Anne has worked in England, Singapore, France, Germany, Rumania, Cameroon and India. Marie Anne enjoys cooking, walking and anything related to the arts.

Gina Ryan

Pamoja Education Site-Based Coordinator, Music Teacher

Gina received her PhD in music education from McGill University, where she also completed her Master’s degree in percussion performance. She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in Canada, the United States, France, China, and Japan.

Gina has been the recipient of numerous awards and grants from universities and arts councils, including a production grant from the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Quebec to produce the percussion solo show, Transitions. She was the percussionist for the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble as a Susan and Ford Schumann Fellow.

Gina has commissioned several composers, and their compositions as well as her own have been featured in various festivals, including the International Sound Symposium and Cluster New Music and Integrated Arts Festival.

She has studied with members of Nexus at the University of Toronto, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in performance and has studied with Don Wherry at Memorial University where she received her Bachelor’s degree in music education. Gina has taught music in Canada, Switzerland and Thailand.

William Schlei

Humanities, Geography, TOK teacher

William Schlei, from the USA, is an MYP Humanities and IBDP Geography and TOK teacher. William joined Prem from Phuket International Academy and he has over 16 years experience teaching Geography and other subjects in the IBDP in Asia as well as the Bahamas and France. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Southern California, a Juris Doctor from the University of California and a Graduate Certificate of Education from Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia. He enjoys photography, reading, music, cooking, cycling, hiking and skiing.

Stephen (Steve) Service

CAS (Creativity Activity Service) Coordinator, Digital Design Teacher

Prior to joining Prem in 2011, Steve taught in other schools in Thailand, as well as in Brunei Darussalam, Egypt, Indonesia and his home country, Canada.

Steve has a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Northern British Columbia. He also has certificates in electronics and design from the British Columbia Institute of Technology.

In his spare time, Steve enjoys traveling, mountain biking, motorcycling and maintaining his yard and garden.

Emma Shaw

Science Teacher

Emma Shaw joined Prem to teach Senior School Science and as a Grade 9 Homeroom Teacher.

She has worked with Manchester Metropolitan University, the University of Central Lancashire (UK), the University of Manchester (UK) and Chiang Mai University.

She has taught Senior School science and has been an exam invigilator at Prem. She holds a bachelor’s degree, a PhD and a Post Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice – all awarded by Manchester Metropolitan University (UK).

She is an internationally published arachnologist, has been involved in a number of post-doctoral research projects and is a member of the British Arachnological and British Ecological Societies.

Sui Shuang

Mandarin Teacher

Sui holds a Bachelor of Chinese Language & Literature and Teaching Licence from the Anyang Normal University of China as well as a Master of Education from the Assumption University of Thailand.

Sui has a decade of teaching experience in Thailand most recently with the SIngapore International School of Bangkok where she has been Head of Chinese department teaching years 7-12 inclusive. Sui has extensive experience in curriculum development and looks forward to the challenge of joining the new team of Chinese language teachers at Prem.

Nuriye Sirinoglu Singh

Curriculum Leader of Mathematics, Mathematics Teacher

Nuriye Sirinoglu Singh, from Turkey, is an MYP and IBDP Mathematics a teacher and also the Curriculum Leader for the Mathematics teaching team. She joined Prem from the British International School of Cairo and prior to that she taught in Malaysia, Singapore and in Turkey. She has a BSc in Secondary School Science Teaching, Mathematics Major from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara and Master of Science in Education from Wilkes University in the USA. Nuriye is a workshop leader and examiner for the IBDP Mathematics HL and she is joined at Prem by her husband and son.

Melissa Sweeney

Health and Physical Education Teacher

Melissa Sweeney, from Australia, was Director of Sport and MYP PE teacher at Berlin British School before joining Prem as a Physical and Health Education teacher and the Grade Level Leader for Grades 9 – 10. Mel will also be teaching some JS PE classes. She has also taught in London, Tanzania and Australia in a variety of PE and outdoor education roles. Melissa has a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Health Science and a Graduate Diploma in Education, both from the University of Western Australia. Her personal interests include travelling, open water swimming, diving, hiking and photography.

Euna Tang

Mandarin Teacher

Euna holds a BA in Language Education from the China West Normal University and an MA of Educational Management from the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Euna joins us from her most recent post as Chinese Department Coordinator at the QSI International School of Chengdu, China where she worked teaching various senior school levels of Chinese Mandarin and English over the past nine years working with both IB and AP curriculum. She also taught in Malaysia and other parts of China since 2003.

Sonam Yeshey

Dzongkha Teacher, Boarding Parent

An honours graduate (Dzongkha language) from the Institute of Language and Culture in Bhutan, Sonam is an experienced teacher, Headmaster, MYP proponent – and a keen singer who has released many audio CDs.

He joined the Senior School as Dzongkha teacher, and as a boarding House Parent.

He taught at the prestigious Kodaikanal International School in India from 2004 until his appointment to Prem, and during that time acted as MYP Personal Project supervisor, school’s camp assistant and as a leader in social and community service in the area.

Casey Gramaglia

Director of IEP

Casey Gramaglia has been a teacher for nearly 20 years, particularly experienced in the field of contemplative arts, such as yoga and meditation. He is the director of Intensive English Programme, where with the help of his team has incorporated these disciplines into the curriculum. Casey’s from The United States of America and has been part of the PREM community for 7 years, as both a parent and teacher, Casey’s 3 generation family has fully embraced Mom Tri’s (PREM’s founder) vision of living and learning together. Casey has both a PGCE & Master’s Degree in Education from Keele University; he is an avid athlete who loves to swim, bike and run.

Jun Zhang

IEP

Jun Zhang is from China and has been an IEP teacher, teaching Core English and Math, since 2014 he was previously a boarding parent at PREM. Jun graduated from Yunnan University of Finance and Economics with a Bachelor of Arts (Honors in Business English). Before Jun obtained his Master of Arts (Honors in American Culture Study) from Yunnan University, he worked as a qualified English teacher in several universities and some prestigious English Language Centers. As a keen language learner, Jun is fluent in English, Japanese and Mandarin and is a great role model of a successful language learner for the students in IEP.

His interest in Oriental religions brought him to Thailand, where he completed an ESL/ESOL teaching course. He has traveled in many ASEAN countries to enrich his interests of cross-cultural communication, language studies and trekking.

Carol Sintra Burgess

IEP Teacher / Boarding Parent

Carol Sintra Burgess is from England and will be joining us as a Boarding Parent. Sintra is a qualified PSHE and Citizenship teacher.

She has a BA in Politics and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education specializing in Citizenship. Sintra has worked in East Timor, the Phillippines and South Korea. Her interests include politics, international affairs and travel.

Sam Brigstock-Barron

Sam is from Yorkshire in England and joins Prem as an IEP teacher and Prem FC coach. Following 4 years as an IEP teacher in Bangkok, he returned to England to qualify as a Primary School Teacher, gaining a PGCE in Primary Education from London Metropolitan University. Sam joins after 2 years working as a homeroom teacher and football coach at a British International School in Bangkok.

Sam is a passionate football player and coach. He studied for a BSc in Sport Management at Sheffield Hallam University and is a qualified FA coach.

Nicole Duhig

Director of Boarding

Nicole Duhig is currently the Director of Boarding. She is originally from Oxford, England. She has been at Prem since 2012 having started initially as the Careers and College Counsellor.

Since 2014 Nicole has also been the IB Career-related Programme Coordinator and Alumni Coordinator.

Nicole enjoys most sports especially running, cycling, walking and horse riding.

Francia Laya

Boarding/Learning Mentor

Francia is a recent university graduate in search to explore and work in the educational system abroad. She is seeking new experiences, and developing self-growth while simultaneously stimulating self-growth in the youth of PREM, her equals and superiors!

Sonam Yeshey

Dzongkha Teacher, Boarding Parent

Tshering Dem

Tshering Dem joins us as a Boarding Parent from Bhutan where she has been teaching various subjects to primary students. Tshering has a BA in Political Science and Sociology from Royal Thimphu College, Bhutan, and also studied at La Trobe University in Melbourne for her Certificate in Master Teacher.

Alex Prescott

Boarding Parent

Alex Prescott is from the United Kingdom and joined us as a Boarding Mentor in 2016. Previously she worked in boarding at a school in Suffolk, England. She has a BA (Hons) in Latin American Studies from the University of Liverpool and a TEFL qualification. She has worked in Tanzania, Spain and Peru, and speaks Spanish to an advanced level and can hold a conversation in Swahili; she is also attempting to learn Thai. Having boarded in the past herself, she understands the joys and challenges of boarding from both staff and student perspectives. Her hobbies include travel, reading and video games.

Milena Thorburn

Boarding Learning Mentor

Milena joins Prem as a Boarding Learning Mentor in Cluster 10. She is originally from the South East of England. She recently completed a BSc in Psychology with a focus on child and developmental psychology at the University of Surrey in the UK. Prior to her time at Prem she spent several years working in a boarding school in West Sussex, England, in several roles in boarding and in the classroom.

She enjoys hiking, swimming and trying new foods.

Jess Lim

Learning Mentor

A Singaporean living in Thailand for 35 years, and with a B.Th. minoring in Christian Education, I started out as an Early Years teacher. From there, I went on to teach and manage private and international schools at all levels, even up to university. With my children working overseas and an itinerant husband, I flew from empty-nest into boarding at Prem as a learning mentor. For recreations, I play Sudoku and Crosswords, as well as sew and stitch, besides batting ping-pong balls and shooting arrows >> I also write, and actually published a book on a collection of 35 years of true but hilarious stories in the Land of Smiles.

Ersong Zhang

Boarding Parent

Ersong Zhang is from China. Before arriving in Prem, he taught mandarin in International Institute of Kunming University of Science and Technology. He joined Prem in August 2016. This term his role is Boarding Parent who is responsible for G8 and G9 in Cluster 11. Ersong holds a Bachelor’s degree in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language and had one-year exchange study in Darlana University in Sweden. He also has a Master degree in International Chinese Language Education.

Cara Templeton

Boarding Learning Mentor

Cara is an Australian teacher who came to Chiang Mai in January to volunteer at Wat Phra Singh and loved it so much, she decided to stay in Thailand. She holds a Bachelor of Communication, a Graduate Diploma in Education and a Graduate Certificate in Educational Research. Cara joined Prem in April, 2018 and works in Boarding and assists with EAL in the Junior School. In her free time, she enjoys teaching yoga, hiking, drinking coffee and spending time with her friends, family and pets.

Penthai Thewin

Boarding Mentor

Penthai Thewin is from Thailand and will be joining us as a Boarding Mentor. Penthai joins us from an International School in Bangkok where he is a Teaching Assistant for students with special educational needs. Penthai has a BA Business Administration, Master of Education program in Guidance and Psychological Counselling, and has just completed his Doctor of Philosophy program in Applied Psychology. Penthai is from Chiang Mai originally, so is happy to be returning to spend more time with his family.

Sintra Burgess is from England and is the House Parent for Cluster 12B/C girls. She also teaches on the Intensive English Program. Before arriving at Prem she was a Volunteer Co-ordinator in a refugee camp in Greece.  She was also a House Parent in Oxford and has taught English abroad in East Timor and South Korea. She is a qualified secondary school teacher specializing in Citizenship and Personal Social Health Education.

Sintra is interested in the arts and loves to listen to live music as well as discussing current affairs.

Pojanalai Pakdeeyotin (Tae), has a Bachelor of Education Degree in Kindergarten from Chiang Mai Rajabhat University.

She taught in Thai Schools for two years. She is currently the EY3 Teaching Assistant and has previously been ‘Little Explorers’ kindergarten teacher.

She has completed IB PYP training.

Pirawan Pankham (Miew) has a Bachelor degree in Agriculture from Chiang Mai University.

Her Interests include backpack travelling and photography.

She is the Grade 3 teaching assistant.
