The Faculty

Alun Cooper

Head of School

Alun Cooper became the Head of School at Prem on 01 August 2014. Alun, a British citizen, is a highly regarded international school educator with over twenty-eight years of leading schools worldwide. He has worked with the IB curriculum in the Americas, Asia and Europe, and also has boarding school experience.

His previous role was Head of the innovative Think Global School. Other positions of responsibility have included Headships of the United Nations International School of Hanoi, the International School of Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Antwerp International School (Belgium) and Santiago College (Chile).

He has a master’s degree in Curriculum Design and Educational Management from the University of Southampton, England, and is a graduate in education from the University of Wales, Bangor.

He has a very strong commitment to the holistic education and best practice that the IB represents in encouraging students to fulfil their potential, and to strive not only for academic excellence but to become life-long learners. He has a reputation as a community builder and also brings a working relationship with extensive international networks in the educational world.
 He is accompanied by his wife, Mary, an experienced Montessori-trained teacher.

Wannapa Suksang

Thai Director

Wannapha Suksang or Ajarn Tiew has a BA in English from Lampang Rajabhat University and an MEd in Elementary Education from Chiang Mai University.

She also completed a Diploma course in Educational Administration and Management and received a BEd in teaching Thai Language from Sukhothai Thammathirat University.

Ajarn Tiew was the recipient of an Excellent Teacher Award in 1999 and is a qualified ONESQA Assessor.

Lee Stevens

Athletics and Extra-Curricular Director

Prior to joining Prem, Lee has served in the British Council in Chiang Mai, Nakorn Payap International School also in Chiang Mai and most recently in Traill International School in Bangkok.

Lee holds a BA (Hons) in Social Sciences from Manchester Metropolitan University, a B.Ed from the University of Winnipeg and a Masters in Athletic Administration from Endicott College in the United States. Lee also holds current coaching qualifications, most particularly in soccer.

Lee will be joined at Prem by his wife, and their daughter, Jade.

Lee is interested in playing numerous sports and amongst those he mentions; soccer cycling, golf, badminton, basketball and Triathalons.

Stacey Taylor

Director of Library and Media Services

Prior to joining Prem, Stacey has served in school libraries in a number of different capacities since 1985 and has also taught Theory of Knowledge to IB Diploma students. From January 2016, Stacey has served as the Acting Director of Global Connections at Kambala in Australia.

Stacey has a Bachelor of Arts in Library Science from Kuring-gai in Sydney, A Masters of Information degree from the University of Technology in Sydney and a Graduate Diploma of Teaching and Learning from Charles Darwin University.

Stacey’s interests include travelling, reading and cooking. Stacey is passionate about swimming.

Simon Hobbs

Director of IT

Simon Hobbs is from the United Kingdom and is joining Prem as our new Director of IT. Simon graduated from the University of Bournemouth with a BA in International Business Administration (major in IT Management) and subsequently from Liverpool Hope University College with a PGCE in 2003. Simon has taught in England, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and most latterly in China as an ICT Integration specialist as well as a Director of IT. Simon is a mountaineer, rock climber, runner, plays soccer and enjoys playing the guitar. Simon is accompanied by his wife.

Roxanne Hickie

Director of Admissions

Roxanne Hickie, from the United Kingdom is our new Director of Admissions. Roxanne graduated from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, in 2004 started her professional career in Thailand, before joining the University of East Anglia in 2007 in admissions in the Faculty of Social Science. In the last nine years, Roxanne has led many initiatives in the University of East Anglia, most latterly in international student recruitment; which sharpened her nascent marketing skills. Roxanne will be accompanied by her partner, Michael, and her daughter, Lauren, who will be enrolled in our Junior School.

Amandine Lecesne


We are excited to welcome Amandine Lecesne to a new whole-school position of Student Counsellor. Amandine is an American citizen and has a BA with honours in Psychology from Capella University, USA, and a Master’s degree with honours in Counselling Psychology from UC Davis USA.

Amandine speaks French and English fluently. She is committed to providing counselling, compassion, guidance and support to help our students achieve healing and wellbeing.

Alex Soulsby

Coordinator for Strategic Creative development

Alex is an International Creative Education Consultant with over 18 year’s experience of Teaching, Arts Advocacy, Creative Projects Management and educational management.

His project work has been twice nominated for the prestigious British, National Charity Award and he has been both a project lead on National Arts campaigns in the UK and a strategic advisor to International Schools and Children’s Arts Organisations.

Outside of work as a photographer and artist, his clients have included the Royal National Theatre London, Arts Council England, English Touring Theatre and Orchestras Live. To date his work has appeared in publications and websites including the Guardian, Observer, Daily Mail and Grazzia Magazine, as well as on the BBC and Channel 4 in the UK.

Agnes Wdowik

Learning Support

Agnes provides learning support for Junior School students. She came to Prem from the UK, where she worked from 2007 – 2010 after earning her MSc in Physical Education at the Bronislaw Czech Academy of Physical Education in Krakow, Poland.

Agnes has also worked as a PE teacher and House Parent at BBIS boarding school, a teaching assistant in special needs schools in the UK, and as a teacher, fitness instructor and choreographer at schools and cultural centres in Poland and Italy.

Agnes enjoys photography, travel and dance – and was the choreographer for Prem’s 2012 production of Fame! The Musical.

Elisabeth Wojciuk

Learning Support

Beth Wojcuik joined Prem in August 2014 as a whole-school Student Support Teacher. She is an American citizen and holds a BA in History from St Ambrose University, Davenport, and a Special Education License from St Mary’s University of Minnesota, USA.

Beth is a passionate student support teacher and has a great sense of fun, is an avid sports fan and enjoys reading, traveling and swimming.

Susan Morgan


Susan was a pre-school teacher at the Ivy Hill Pre-school in New Jersey, USA, for three years and was owner and teacher at her own alternative pre-school in Chiang Mai for five years. She has conducted Early Education workshops for Burmese refugee women and teachers and has a wide range of experience teaching at other international schools.

She has a BA in Art and Culture, an Art Students League of New York coursework certificate equal to a BFA in art and education qualifications from the Brookdale Community College.

Susan is also an artist and lecturer who recently gave a talk on 100 Years of Thai Women Artist at the National Art Museum in Bangkok.

In 2010, Susan was a guest lecturer at Chiang Mai University’s Language Institute where she gave talks on her research work related to food and spirit worship in Thailand.

Susan is the co-producer and videographer for the documentary Threads of Life: Hemp and Gender in a Hmong Village (1994) which premiered at Asia Society in New York and Hong Kong. During the 1980s, Susan was the personal assistant for Christo and Jeanne-Claude, and had the great opportunity to work with them on Surrounded Islands: Project for Miami and Pont Neuf: Project for Paris. She has written articles including Skydancers & Other Mystiques Works by Skowmon Hastanan. Susan has also exhibited her own work in New York and Chiang Mai.

Susan is currently engaged in studies for her Master’s degree in art education from the University of Nebraska, Kearney.

Igor Van Bever

Integration Coordinator, House Activity Coordinator

Belgian Igor Van Bever has been working with the Three-Generation Farm programme and as a volunteer in boarding for the last year. He has been a valued member of the boarding community, and we are delighted that he is now a member of the Prem staff.

Igor studied at the University of Ghent in Belgium where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in psychology. He has also studied biology and biomedical sciences. Igor is taking on the role as Cultural Learning Mentor and House and Activity Co-ordinator in Boarding. He is very well suited for this position, as he has a passion for cycling, squash, aikido, kite surfing and spinning.

Yuwadee Makpan


Yuwadee Makpan has a Master of Education in Teaching Thai from Chiang Mai University, a BA and a Dip Science in Education. She taught at a bilingual school for three years prior to coming to Prem. Ajarn Yuwadee has been teaching Thai language and culture classes at Prem since 2005. She has completed IB PYP and IB MYP Language Acquisition training.

Yuwadee is keenly interested in environmental education, meditation, sport, music, and the arts.

Khaekhai Maimaytee

Ajarn Kik works across the PYP and MYP programmes as a Thai Language and Culture teacher.

Khaekhai Maimaytee or Ajarn Kik has a B.A. in Mass Communication and M.S. in Counseling Psychology from Chiangmai University. She also has B.ED. in Guidance and B.A. in Thai Study from Sukhothai Thammathirat University.

Prior to joining Prem, Ajarn Kik has worked in a number of International Schools in Chiang Mai. She has a particular interest in working with students to develop their understanding of Thai Culture.

Anita McCallum

Junior School Principal

Anita has held previous posts as Vice-Principal, Curriculum Co-ordinator, Subject Leader and teacher in schools in Muscat, the Sultanate of Oman, and in Canberra, Australia.  
She holds a Bachelor of Teaching, a Bachelor of Education and a Master’s degree in Education, with a major in Educational Leadership, from the Australian Catholic University. She is a First Steps trainer, and holds sports coaching certificates for netball and touch football.

Anita is particularly interested in Inquiry Learning, the teaching of English and the effectiveness of ICT programmes in schools.
She is also a gourmet cook! Anita is joined at Prem by her husband Patrick and their daughters, Grace and Olivia. Anita McCallum joined Prem as the new Junior School Principal in August 2014. Anita, an Australian citizen, previously held the position of Primary Principal at Ajman Academy International School, UAE, where she introduced the PYP and led the school through its IB PYP authorisation process.

Mark Bowyer

PYP Co-ordinator

Mark gained extensive experience of the IB programmes during his time at Kristin and at Seoul International School, as well as other schools in New Zealand and England. He holds a master’s degree in education with a physical education and TESOL focus (University of New England, Australia), a BEd (Massey University NZ) and a Diploma of Teaching (Auckland College of Education). Previously Head of Junior School Physical Education at Kristin School in New Zealand, Mark joined Prem in August 2012 as the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme Co-ordinator.

Tamayo Gaysek

Early Years 1

Tammy has a BA in Social Sciece from the University of California at Berkeley and holds a California teaching credential. She is trained and experienced in various Early Years programmes including PYP. She has previously taught in the USA and Bangladesh. By researching best practice in different countries, Tammy promotes internationalism and inquiry-based learning. Tammy’s interests include spending time with her family including her two children, Noa and Mia, discovering new favourite restaurants and travelling to exotic places.

Mary Cooper

Early Years 2

Mary Cooper, from the UK, joined the Early Years team in August 2014. Mary says that she is a “passionate practitioner” who takes Early Years development and education seriously, and she also recognises the value of fun in learning. She has taught Early Years children at the International School and Rainbow School in Vietnam, Antwerp International School in Belgium, and Craighouse School and Rayhue Montessori School in Santiago, Chile. She has a Diploma in Pre-school Practice from the Pre-school Learning Alliance.

Kate Rock

Grade 1

Prior to joining Prem, Kate was a Grade 2 class teacher in London, UK. She has worked with students from EY1 – Grade 5, and has had leadership experience in a number of schools as the Science Coordinator. Kate is an enthusiastic and imaginative teacher with over 20 years of successful classroom experience. She is passionate about her work and strives to create exciting lessons that engage and extend her students. Kate believes in the importance of developing the reading skills of all her students, and tells her class that ‘Reading is the Key’ that will unlock the rest of the curriculum.

Kate has a Bachelor of Arts degree, with Qualified Teacher Status, from Warwick University, UK. She also has a diploma in Counselling Skills from London Metropolitan University and is a Certified Life Coach. Kate’s hobbies include reading, photography, singing, learning Thai and discovering new, delicious foods.

Katie Brailsford

Grade 3

Katie Brailsford, from Canada, is a Prem Junior School homeroom teacher. Katie completed her studies at Trent University and Queen’s University in Canada where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education. Prior to joining Prem, Katie taught at CIS Beijing where she was the lead teacher for her grade level team. Katie has attended numerous PYP training courses and is a strong believer in inquiry based learning, developing fresh ideas and creative ways and strategies to engage students through provocations and lessons.

Jeremy Gaysek

Grade 4

Jeremy is well-versed in PYP practices with eleven years of PYP experience. He was previously working at International School Dhaka, Bangladesh. Jeremy is also an IB Workshop Leader, and he has trained other professionals in Creativity, Digital Citizenship, Introduction to PYP, Mathematics and Language Arts. He has a California Teaching Credential certified to teach Kindergarten through Grade 12. He has a BSc in Human Development and an MA in Curriculum and Instruction, both from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in the USA. Jeremy has also helped to open a children’s learning center in Redwood Shores, California. When he is not teaching, Jeremy enjoys traveling with his wife (Tammy) and children (Noa and Mia). His interests include turntable mechanics, rhythmic studies and music appreciation.

IB Workshop Leader

Gillian Turner

Grade 4

Gill is a Junior School homeroom teacher and most recently taught Grade 5 at Dubai International Academy, an IB World School in Dubai. Gill’s experiences the past thirty years include teaching all primary levels in schools in the UAE, Qatar and Australia. She also has experience leading the PYP Exhibition and she has led student well-being teams along with school-wide kitchen / garden programmes. Gill has a Diploma of Teaching (Primary) from Burwook Teachers’ College and a Post Graduate Diploma in Mental Health for the Teaching Profession from Monash University, both in Victoria, Australia.

Patrick McCallum

Grade 5

We welcomed Patrick McCallum, an Australian citizen, to the Junior School in August 2014. Patrick has taught Year 5 and 6 classes at Ajman Academy in the UAE and Year 5 at The Sultan’s School, Sultanate of Oman, and various grade levels in Australia. Patrick has a Bachelor of Teaching from the Australian Catholic University and joined Prem with his wife, Anita McCallum, the new Junior School Principal, and their daughters, Olivia and Grace.

Fanqi Zeng

Mandarin Language Teacher and Boarding House Parent

Fanqi Zeng comes from China. She holds a BA in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (TCFL) from Beijing Language and Culture University and another BA in International Finance. Qi is a qualified ESL/ESOL teacher with abundant English and Chinese teaching experience. Prior to joining Prem, she has worked in a prestigious Chinese language centre in China and a private school in Thailand. Qi is fluent in two Chinese dialects on top of Mandarin and English, and she continues to learn Thai. As a language learner and teacher, she fully understands the power of language and the challenges in language learning. Her interests includes aerial yoga, rock climbing, physical fitness and world traveling.

Paul Jasmins

Grade 5

Paul Jasmins, from Canada, joins the Junior School as a Grade 5 homeroom teacher. Paul completed his studies at York University in Toronto and University of Ottawa where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education respectively. He has an additional EAL qualification, and is in the process of completing a qualification in Special Education.

Prior to joining Prem, Paul had taught the PYP in Hong Kong, Chiang Mai, as well as taught English as a Second Language in elementary schools in Hiroshima, Japan. Paul is a strong believer in fostering a classroom culture of independence and social responsibility where students see themselves as confident and imaginative authors and collaborators.

Renuka Suayan

Renuka Suayan or Ajarn Noina is a Thai language and culture teacher in the Junior School.

Noina obtained her Bachelor Degree in Thai language and literature at Chiang Mai University and a Master ‘s Degree in Education, with a major in Elementary from Chiang Mai University. She has experience teaching Thai language and culture in International schools for 14 years before coming to Prem in 2015.

Ajarn Noina interested in cooking and baking and she loves working with young people.

Colette Hirst

English as an Additional Language

Colette Hirst, from the United Kingdom is the English as an Additional Language teacher in the Junior School. Before joining Prem, Collette most recently taught at the Steve Jobs school in Alicante, Spain and is a qualified and experienced teacher and counsellor working with students in a range of educational settings in the United Kingdom and Spain. Having completed her BA in Education at Huddersfield University, Colette has gone on to study counselling and numerous other courses in the UK. Colette loves travelling and learning new languages and cultures and seeing new places. She is joined at Prem by her daughter in the Junior School.

Laurent Chiarelli


Laurent Chiarelli, from Belgium. Laurent is our Junior School Music teacher. Laurent obtained his Bachelor Degree in Education (English and Dutch as a second language) at ISELL Sainte-Croix College of Education, Liege, Belgium. In addition to this degree, he has also completed Thai classical music studies at Natasin College of Dramatic Arts, Chiang Mai, and Music and Drama at “Cesar Franck” music and theatre academy in Vise, Belgium. Prior to joining the Junior School, Laurent has taught English in the Intensive English Programme at Prem, lectured in English and French at Chiang Mai University. Notably, Laurent is the Co-founder/President of the “Sangob Foundation”, in Mae Taeng, Thailand. Laurent has a strong taste for learning and for challenges and enjoys music, philosophy, meditation, travel, culture and literature in his spare time.

Anocha Poowapittayanon (Aey)

Junior School Secretary

Anocha  Poowapittayanon (Aey) has a Bachelor degree in Business English from Rajamangala University of Technology Chiang Mai. Her interests include sports, cooking and adventure traveling. She is the Junior School Secretary.

Nicole Duhig

Director of Boarding and Careers and College Counsellor

Nicole Duhig is originally from Oxford, England. She has been at Prem since 2012 having started initially as the Careers and College Counsellor.

Since 2014 Nicole has also been the IB Career-related Programme Coordinator and Alumni Coordinator.

From 2017 Nicole will also be the Director of Boarding.

Nicole enjoys most sports especially running, cycling, walking and horse riding.

Emma Shaw


Emma Shaw joined Prem to teach Senior School Science and as a Grade 9 Homeroom Teacher.

She has worked with Manchester Metropolitan University, the University of Central Lancashire (UK), the University of Manchester (UK) and Chiang Mai University.

She has taught Senior School science and has been an exam invigilator at Prem. She holds a bachelor’s degree, a PhD and a Post Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice – all awarded by Manchester Metropolitan University (UK).

She is an internationally published arachnologist, has been involved in a number of post-doctoral research projects and is a member of the British Arachnological and British Ecological Societies.

Lucy Kyte


Lucy has a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics and a PGCE from the University of Southampton.

She taught Mathematics first in England, then at the International School Milan, Italy, before moving to the International School Brunei as Head of Maths, where she later joined the Senior Management Team as Curriculum Manager for Sciences.

She enjoys learning languages, skiing and the arts.

Mala Dorset

Maths & Science

Mala Dorset is a Grade 6 Homeroom Teacher and teaches Senior School mathematics, science and IT.

She is a graduate of the Dunedin College of Education in New Zealand and has taught science, physical education and mathematics at schools in Lao and England.

She is an experienced MYP and PYP teacher.

Mike Matthews


Mike is a Grade 10 Homeroom teacher and also teaches humanities and history. He has a BA (Hons) in history from the University of Southampton (UK), and a Post Graduate Certificate of Education (St Luke’s College, University of Exeter).

He was most recently Head of History at a Bangkok international school, and prior to that he taught in other schools in Thailand and the United Kingdom. His interests include Thai cooking, golf, travel, reading and family life.

Stephen Service

CAS Coordinator, Digital Design

Canadian Stephen Service comes to Prem from the Chiang Rai International School, and has also taught at St Andrew’s International School, Rayong (Thailand), Garden International School, Rayong (Thailand), International School, Brunei (Brunei Darussalam), El Gouna International School (Egypt), the Ailanthus Achievement Centre (Vancouver, Canada) and in Sumatra, Indonesia.

He has bachelor’s degrees in education and English literature from UBC and UNBC, and electronics and design training certificates from the British Columbia Institute of Technology.

Rob Handley


Rob came to Prem in 2007 from Saint Stephen’s International School in Bangkok, having previously taught in the UK and on Saint Helena Island in the South Atlantic Ocean. He is a qualified engineer and worked in Control Systems design and integration in the UK and Europe for many years prior to his teaching career.

He holds a first-class Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Staffordshire University), a PGCE in Secondary Education (Manchester Metropolitan University), a Diploma in Industrial Management (Staffordshire University), a Higher National Certificate in Electrical Engineering (Staffordshire Polytechnic) and a Michelin Technical Apprenticeship.

At Prem, Rob is the Curriculum Co-ordinator for Science and teaches Diploma Physics, MYP Science and Senior School Mathematics. He also runs the Audio Visual Group which involves students in managing the sound and lighting for school productions and assemblies.

His interests include playing blues harmonica, drums and vocals, performing live or in a recording studio, motorcycling and spending time with his family.

Sonam Yeshey


An honours graduate (Dzongkha language) from the Institute of Language and Culture in Bhutan, Sonam is an experienced teacher, Headmaster, MYP proponent – and a keen singer who has released many audio CDs.

He joined the Senior School as Dzongkha teacher, and as a boarding House Parent.

He taught at the prestigious Kodaikanal International School in India from 2004 until his appointment to Prem, and during that time acted as MYP Personal Project supervisor, school’s camp assistant and as a leader in social and community service in the area.

Wendy Li


Li Wen joined Prem as a Home Room teacher and as teacher of Mandarin, a post she had held at several other schools in Thailand following her graduation with a bachelor’s degree in teaching Chinese as a foreign language from Guangxi University. She also holds a Certificate of Thai language and culture.

Li Wen is a fluent speaker of Mandarin, Thai and English, and enjoys Tai Chi, cooking, sport – and getting outdoors whenever the weather allows.

William Schlei

Humanities, Geography, TOK

William Schlei, from the USA, is an MYP Humanities and IBDP Geography and TOK teacher. William joined Prem from Phuket International Academy and he has over 16 years experience teaching Geography and other subjects in the IBDP in Asia as well as the Bahamas and France. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Southern California, a Juris Doctor from the University of California and a Graduate Certificate of Education from Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia. He enjoys photography, reading, music, cooking, cycling, hiking and skiing.

Bernard Autet


Bernard Autet, a French national, Bernard is a French teacher in the Senior School. Bernard rejoined the school after stepping in for six months in 2014 and continues where he left off teaching both MYP and IBDP courses. Bernard is the former Head of Language B at the British International School in Phuket where he taught from 1998 to 2013. Bernard has both a BA and MA from Nantes University in France and qualified as a teacher in Montreal where is also worked as a language teacher.

Camilla Cook

Curriculum Leader of Language and Literature, English

Camilla Cook, from England, is a teacher of MYP and IBDP English and also Curriculum Leader for the Language and Literature team. She joined Prem from London where she had been the Director of Learning at The Hackney Pirates. Prior to that role Camilla was an English teacher at the Academia Britanica Cuscatleca in El Salvador and she is also an IBDP English examiner. She has a joint BA in English and the History of Art from the University of Leeds in the UK and a MA in Media, Culture and Education from The Institute of Education. She is a Spanish speaker who enjoys sports, especially tennis, hockey and cricket as well as animation and filmmaking.

Catherine Schlei

Curriculum Leader of Language Acquisitions, Spanish, French

Cathy holds a BA in History, an MAT in Spanish and a Diplôme Universitaire, Société Française in French from the Université Aix-Marseille. Originally from the Bahamas, Cathy has 32 years teaching experience and has taught in The U.S. ,the Bahamas, France, Vietnam, and most recently in Phuket before joining Prem in 2016.

In addition to teaching MYP French, DP ab initio Spanish and ToK Cathy is the Curriculum Leader of the Language Acquisition department as well as the whole school Mother Tongue coordinator. She is also an IB examiner for Spanish Ab Initio.

Cathy enjoys reading, tennis, skiing, cooking and spending time with her soi dogs in her free time.

Martin Nielsen

Economics, Business Management

Teaching Economics and Business Management in the Senior School, Martin joined Prem in August 2015. He is an experienced international teacher, having served at United Nations International School in Hanoi, Anglo-American School in Moscow and most recently at American International School Lusaka in Zambia. Prior to teaching, he was a commodity futures and options trader at the Chicago Board of Trade.

His qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in international relations, an MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management, and a Masters of Arts in Teaching from National-Lewis University, Illinois USA.

Melissa Sweeney

9 - 10 Grade Level Leader, Health and Physical Education

Melissa Sweeney, from Australia, was Director of Sport and MYP PE teacher at Berlin British School before joining Prem as a Physical and Health Education teacher and the Grade Level Leader for Grades 9 – 10. Mel will also be teaching some JS PE classes. She has also taught in London, Tanzania and Australia in a variety of PE and outdoor education roles. Melissa has a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Health Science and a Graduate Diploma in Education, both from the University of Western Australia. Her personal interests include travelling, open water swimming, diving, hiking and photography.

Catherine Piper

Curriculum Leader for AEP

Catherine Piper is the coordinator for the Academic English Programme (AEP). She moved to Chiang Mai from Bangkok four years ago, where she had worked for many years at Bangkok Patana School as an EAL teacher and coordinator, mainly in Primary Years.

Coming from the UK, Catherine has an MA in English Language and Literature from Edinburgh University and a PGCE in TESOL from Manchester University . Prior to working at Patana, she spent two years at the British Council in Bangkok, and before that as a language advisor in the JET Programme for Japanese state schools.

Catherine is a qualified instructor trainer in Emergency First Response (first aid) and regularly runs courses for both staff and students.

Gina Ryan

Music Teacher, Pamoja Education Site-Based Coordinator

Gina received her PhD in music education from McGill University, where she also completed her Master’s degree in percussion performance. She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in Canada, the United States, France, China, and Japan.

Gina has been the recipient of numerous awards and grants from universities and arts councils, including a production grant from the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Quebec to produce the percussion solo show, Transitions. She was the percussionist for the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble as a Susan and Ford Schumann Fellow.

Gina has commissioned several composers, and their compositions as well as her own have been featured in various festivals, including the International Sound Symposium and Cluster New Music and Integrated Arts Festival.

She has studied with members of Nexus at the University of Toronto, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in performance and has studied with Don Wherry at Memorial University where she received her Bachelor’s degree in music education. Gina has taught music in Canada, Switzerland and Thailand.

Kirstina Green


Kirstina Green joined Prem in August 2012 as a Senior School Humanities teacher.

She has a bachelor’s degree and a diploma of teaching, both awarded in her home country of New Zealand, and a master’s degree in educational leadership awarded by Framingham State College, Massachusetts USA.

She has taught in New Zealand, Korea and England and for four years was heavily involved in the Model United Nations (MUN) at Seoul International School, where she was Student Advisor and co-ordinator of MUN excursions to The Hague and Beijing. She coordinated the Seoul MUN conference.

Kirstina has a background in piano and clarinet, enjoys yoga, cooking, reading and travelling, and is also a cricket, soccer and volleyball coach.

Sukanya Charpentier


Sukanya “Boo” Charpentier has been teaching Thai language and culture classes at Prem since 2007. She holds a Master of Arts degree in teaching Thai language from Chiang Mai University and a bachelor’s degree in Thai language and Literature from Prince of Songkra University.

Prior to joining the staff at Prem Boo was a language teacher in the Faculty of Business Administration and Liberal Arts at Rajamangala University of Technology. When now sharing her love of her native Thailand, she enjoys travelling, watching movies and gardening.

Mee Ra (Helen) Kim

Korean, Korean L&L

Helen is a highly qualified teacher of Language and Literature holding a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Korean Language Education from Sang Myung University in Seoul.

Helen has been teaching Korean Language and Literature to senior school level students for over 15 years with 10 years of experience overseas most recently coming from the Overseas Family School in Singapore. She is an examiner with the IBO and also enjoys coaching students when the opportunity arises.

Helen is joined by her daughter who will enroll as a full IB Diploma student at Prem.

Nuriye Sirinoglu Singh

Curriculum Leader of Mathematics, Mathematics

Nuriye Sirinoglu Singh, from Turkey, is an MYP and IBDP Mathematics a teacher and also the Curriculum Leader for the Mathematics teaching team. She joined Prem from the British International School of Cairo and prior to that she taught in Malaysia, Singapore and in Turkey. She has a BSc in Secondary School Science Teaching, Mathematics Major from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara and Master of Science in Education from Wilkes University in the USA. Nuriye is a workshop leader and examiner for the IBDP Mathematics HL and she is joined at Prem by her husband and son.

Mark Bosworth

Digital Design, Product Design

Mark Bosworth, along with his wife Ros and their two young children, began his new life at Prem in August after having lived in Beijing where he was the Head of Design Technology at Harrow International School, and Ros was a school nurse. Prior to this, British citizen Mark worked at The British International School, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and at the Shanghai Rego International School in China as Head of Design Technology.

Mark holds a bachelor’s degree with honours in furniture design from Bournemouth University and a PGCE from Brunel University, London. He is an active member of after-school activities in the classroom and on the sports field specialising in rugby, football, shooting, orienteering and athletics.

Sarah Porter

Humanities, English B, Maths

Sarah Porter has taught in her native USA and in Thailand and comes to Prem having taught most recently at Northbridge International School in Cambodia. She has a master’s degree in education (California State University) and additional degrees in Liberal and General Studies.

Sarah is a middle school specialist with experience of IB programmes and she is teaching across a range of MYP subjects in the Senior School. She has travelled extensively in South East Asia.

Simi Shah


Simi is a highly qualified and experienced teacher of mathematics and technology. She joins us most recently from the British School of Jakarta where she was the Head of Mathematics and Computer Science. She taught in the UK for seven years before going abroad – this is her third international posting. Before teaching she worked in the technology industry and is a certified google educator.

Simi is joined at Prem by her 10th grade daughter Priya.

Lisa McSweeney

Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments

Lisa is a highly qualified teacher of Business Studies and Humanities. She has been teaching internationally since 2009. Prior to that she worked extensively in the private business sector including a term as a Chartered Accountant trainee with KPMG. She also has experience with the International Award, Enterprise Club and coaching of various sports.

Lisa holds a MA Joint Honours (Business Studies and Finance) from the University of Aberdeen and a PGCE in Business Studies from University of Sunderland.

Lisa is joined at Prem by her Husband James and their 2 children.

Elizabeth Hassall


Elizabeth holds a BA(Honours) in Fine Art from the University of the West of England as well as a PGCE in Education from University of Bristol. She is also a graduate of the BTEC Art & Design from Burton Upon Trent College.

Elizabeth joins us from the International School of Brunei where she was the Head of Arts and Global Issues Coordinator teaching IB and IGCSE Visual Arts. She has more than 10 years international school experience teaching in Germany and Brunei. She has been an IB Visual Arts examiner for the past 8 years and is very committed to supporting students through a broad range of co-curricular pursuits.

Daniel Foggo

HPE, BTEC Sports

Daniel Foggo has dual citizenship – Ireland and New Zealand – and is a graduate of the Auckland College of Education, NZ.

He has taught at Vientiane International School (Lao), Parnell College (NZ), Barclay Primary Schools (UK) and Fulham Prep School (UK) where he was also Head of Sport.

At Prem he teaches Health and Physical Education to Grades 6 – 10.

Euna Tang


Euna holds a BA in Language Education from the China West Normal University and an MA of Educational Management from the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Euna joins us from her most recent post as Chinese Department Coordinator at the QSI International School of Chengdu, China where she worked teaching various senior school levels of Chinese Mandarin and English over the past nine years working with both IB and AP curriculum. She also taught in Malaysia and other parts of China since 2003.

Sui Shuang


Sui holds a Bachelor of Chinese Language & Literature and Teaching Licence from the Anyang Normal University of China as well as a Master of Education from the Assumption University of Thailand.

Sui has a decade of teaching experience in Thailand most recently with the SIngapore International School of Bangkok where she has been Head of Chinese department teaching years 7-12 inclusive. Sui has extensive experience in curriculum development and looks forward to the challenge of joining the new team of Chinese language teachers at Prem.

Casey Gramaglia


Raised near New York City, Casey Gramaglia attended the first and oldest Montessori School in America, Whitby School, from pre-school until he was thirteen. This “hands-on” learning has given him a unique and valuable insight into “learning by doing.” He is a graduate of New School University, Eugene Lange College, New York City, with a BA in Liberal Arts, obtaining a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from Keele University, UK. Casey danced ballet professionally as a child, continuing his interest in the discipline of dance, yoga and physical fitness into adulthood.

His love of Eastern philosophy, culture and religion brought him to SE Asia, where he became a student of meditation, a practice he incorporates into the classroom setting. He is a native English speaker, fluent in Thai language and loves working with young people.

Jun Zhang


Jun Zhang is from China and has been an IEP teacher, teaching Core English and Math, since 2014 he was previously a boarding parent at PREM. Jun graduated from Yunnan University of Finance and Economics with a Bachelor of Arts (Honors in Business English). Before Jun obtained his Master of Arts (Honors in American Culture Study) from Yunnan University, he worked as a qualified English teacher in several universities and some prestigious English Language Centers. As a keen language learner, Jun is fluent in English, Japanese and Mandarin and is a great role model of a successful language learner for the students in IEP.

His interest in Oriental religions brought him to Thailand, where he completed an ESL/ESOL teaching course. He has traveled in many ASEAN countries to enrich his interests of cross-cultural communication, language studies and trekking.

Carol Sintra Burgess

IEP Teacher / Boarding Parent

Carol Sintra Burgess is from England and will be joining us as a Boarding Parent. Sintra is a qualified PSHE and Citizenship teacher.

She has a BA in Politics and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education specializing in Citizenship. Sintra has worked in East Timor, the Phillippines and South Korea. Her interests include politics, international affairs and travel.

Sam Brigstock-Barron

Sam is from Yorkshire in England and joins Prem as an IEP teacher and Prem FC coach. Following 4 years as an IEP teacher in Bangkok, he returned to England to qualify as a Primary School Teacher, gaining a PGCE in Primary Education from London Metropolitan University. Sam joins after 2 years working as a homeroom teacher and football coach at a British International School in Bangkok.

Sam is a passionate football player and coach. He studied for a BSc in Sport Management at Sheffield Hallam University and is a qualified FA coach.

Arunothai (Aon) Teeyawaroonkron

Boarding Nurse

Arunothai (Aon) Teeyawaroonkron is the Residential Nurse in boarding. Nurse Aon has had many years of emergency patient care and treatment of injuries.

She is a lecturer in educational first aid and clinical care.

Aon is interested in fieldwork and perfecting her English language skills – and enjoys living and working with the boarding students at Prem.

Nicole Duhig

Director of Boarding and Careers and College Counsellor

Nicole Duhig is originally from Oxford, England. She has been at Prem since 2012 having started initially as the Careers and College Counsellor.

Since 2014 Nicole has also been the IB Career-related Programme Coordinator and Alumni Coordinator.

From 2017 Nicole will also be the Director of Boarding.

Nicole enjoys most sports especially running, cycling, walking and horse riding.

Nicole Ji Yun Lee

Boarding Parent

Nicole Ji Yun Lee is joining us as a Boarding Parent. Nicole is currently in Canada where she is working in her field placement as a counselor. This is the final commitment for her Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Waterloo, Renison College, Waterloo. Nicole also holds a BA Bilingual Honours in Philosophy from York University, Toronto.

Sonam Yeshey

Boarding Parent

An honours graduate (Dzongkha language) from the Institute of Language and Culture in Bhutan, Sonam is an experienced teacher, Headmaster, MYP proponent – and a keen singer who has released many audio CDs.

He joined the Senior School as Dzongkha teacher, and as a boarding House Parent.

He taught at the prestigious Kodaikanal International School in India from 2004 until his appointment to Prem, and during that time acted as MYP Personal Project supervisor, school’s camp assistant and as a leader in social and community service in the area.

Tshering Dem joins us as a Boarding Parent from Bhutan where she has been teaching various subjects to primary students. Tshering has a BA in Political Science and Sociology from Royal Thimphu College, Bhutan, and also studied at La Trobe University in Melbourne for her Certificate in Master Teacher.

Alex Prescott

Boarding Mentor

Alex Prescott is from the United Kingdom and joined us as a Boarding Mentor in 2016. Previously she worked in boarding at a school in Suffolk, England. She has a BA (Hons) in Latin American Studies from the University of Liverpool and a TEFL qualification. She has worked in Tanzania, Spain and Peru, and speaks Spanish to an advanced level and can hold a conversation in Swahili; she is also attempting to learn Thai. Having boarded in the past herself, she understands the joys and challenges of boarding from both staff and student perspectives. Her hobbies include travel, reading and video games.

Rebekah Hendley

Volunteer Mentor

Rebekah Hendley has previously volunteered with the Barge Programme in Bangkok and is at present volunteering with VSP. She will move into boarding for the AY2017/18. Rebekah has a First Class BA Honours English Language degree from Lancaster University in the UK.

Rebekah has previously worked in primary education in England, and has a keen interest travel, cultures and languages.

Ersong Zhang

Boarding Mentor

Ersong Zhang is from China and joins us as a Boarding Mentor. Ersong studied at both Yunnan University in China and Darlana University in Sweden. He has a degree in International Chinese Language Education. Ersong lists his hobbies as reading, swimming, music and photography.

Fanqi Zeng

Mandarin Language Teacher and Boarding House Parent

Fanqi Zeng comes from China. She holds a BA in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (TCFL) from Beijing Language and Culture University and another BA in International Finance. Qi is a qualified ESL/ESOL teacher with abundant English and Chinese teaching experience. Prior to joining Prem, she has worked in a prestigious Chinese language centre in China and a private school in Thailand. Qi is fluent in two Chinese dialects on top of Mandarin and English, and she continues to learn Thai. As a language learner and teacher, she fully understands the power of language and the challenges in language learning. Her interests includes aerial yoga, rock climbing, physical fitness and world traveling.

Mtheto Kadoko Hara

Boarding Mentor

Mtheto Kadoko Hara is from Nairobi and will be joining us as a Boarding Mentor. He has been working in education in Nairobi.

Mtheto has a degree in English from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, and is just completing his Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. Mtheto is a published author, specializing in Prose and Poetry.

Penthai Thewin

Boarding Mentor

Penthai Thewin is from Thailand and will be joining us as a Boarding Mentor. Penthai joins us from an International School in Bangkok where he is a Teaching Assistant for students with special educational needs. Penthai has a BA Business Administration, Master of Education program in Guidance and Psychological Counselling, and has just completed his Doctor of Philosophy program in Applied Psychology. Penthai is from Chiang Mai originally, so is happy to be returning to spend more time with his family.

Carol Sintra Burgess

Boarding Parent / IEP

Sintra Burgess is from England and is the House Parent for Cluster 12B/C girls. She also teaches on the Intensive English Program. Before arriving at Prem she was a Volunteer Co-ordinator in a refugee camp in Greece.  She was also a House Parent in Oxford and has taught English abroad in East Timor and South Korea. She is a qualified secondary school teacher specializing in Citizenship and Personal Social Health Education.

Sintra is interested in the arts and loves to listen to live music as well as discussing current affairs.

Santi Saengtong

Piano Tutor and Instrumental Teaching Facilitator

Santi Saengtong holds a Performer’s Certificate Trinity College of Music, London.

Santi is an established piano teacher of over twenty years in Chiang Mai. He also provides tuition on a range of instruments. He appears regularly in concerts and enjoys teaching students of all abilities.

He places great emphasis on students enjoying quality music. His students gain excellent results in exams. Over the years many of his students have won prizes in regional and national piano competitions.

Phatnaree Phahonthammasan (Tukta), has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Rajamangala University of  Technology Chiang Mai.

She has a Diploma in Business Computer from Chiang Mai Vocational College.

She is the art teacher’s assistant and has completed IB PYP training.

Her interest include outdoor activites and travelling.

Pojanalai Pukrung (Tae), has a Bachelor of Education Degree in Kindergarten from Chiang Mai Rajabhat University.
